The state of PvP in Season of Discovery

Hello everyone.

I am playing SoD for the first time, i have read some threads on these forums and some people say that PvP is broken or that it’s all about one shots left and right, that Horde is absolutely dominant… is this true?
Is Alliance absolutely useless in PvP both in open world and battlegrounds?

I am very interested in your feedback, thank you.

if you aren’t playing an orc and/or ele shaman you are doing it wrong, it is the most broken class bar none and it is insane that the cucks at warcraft devs aint doing :poop:

hardiness needs asap nerfs alongside elesham.

  • riptide longer CD + not affecting power surge
  • flame shock/burn nerf to affect 2-3 at most + less SP gain from flametongue on MH
  • earthshield 9 charges to 3 + less healing
  • lava burst damage nerf

people defending this level of broken pvp need to visit a therapy session.

A paladin complaining about some class being OP? That’s rich mate.

I realize that you’ve gotten so used to bubble cheesing like 90% of the classes in pvp, so that when you meet a class which somehow is immune to that tactic you instantly consider it OP. ‘OMG, I CAN’T KILL HIM DURING THE DURATION OF MY BUBBLE!! OP!!! NERF ASAP!!’

Classic has never been balanced for PvP… they also said they will not focus on PvP balance. Stop expecting insane nerfs and buffs for it.

Also ignore the Wake guy, according to him Paladins are always the worst class that needs buff, and shamans can one-shot everything for 1000 yards away or something.

If you want a class that can do more or less everything - roll a paladin. Let’s break this down:

  • insane burst damage
  • insane survability
  • dispel 90% of all negative effects
  • great tanking
  • great healing
  • a pet that heals you
  • great group utility
  • insane stalling potential since you basically have 3 lives
  • kick
  • gap closer/gainer
  • ranged aoe slow
  • decent spammable ranged damage

I guess paladins don’t have stealth, but there’s nothing blizzard can’t fix for their pet class, right?
Either way, if you are looking for a class that can do pretty much anything - then look no further.

Let’s be fair and break down what shamans have:

  • insane burst damage
  • ok survavability (compared to paladin)
  • dispel some negative effects (poisons and disease). Note, that vast majority of effects you’ll encounter in game, especially in pvp is magic, so no help here
  • great tanking
  • not sure how good are shaman healers are compared to paladins. Suffice it to say that I barely meet any resto shamans. I do meet quite a lot of holy paladins. But may be i’m just lucky/unlucky here
  • ghost wolf pets, i hear they are pretty good, but they last not very long and have a cd
  • good group utility compared to a paladin. Paladin blessings and auras are leagues and bounds better than totems though
  • can’t really stall for a long time, you have only one life after all
  • kick
  • very questionable gap closer/ganer (frost shock (dispellable)/ghost wolf(a hard cast and it’s purgable)
  • your damage is subject to nature/fire resistance. Paladin damage is not, because there’s no such thing as holy resistance in the game.

a horde defending this BS, rich af. play alliance and try to beat an ele shaman. not a single class comes to close to what ele does.

try bubble cheesing against mages with iceblock, rogues which can vanish, druids when frenzied reg is up and etc. theres enough counterplay to beat bubble.
not expecting no brain horde to understand

if you played any melee or any caster that isnt shaman or paladin because bubble is so OP that other stronger i-win buttons are shorter on CD and better aint as good.
you would realize that shamans, especially ele is busted.

at least quote people correctly, shamans have stupid amounts of selfheal that you cannot even kick.
Paladins are 3rd best if anything as a melee in PvP, but melee has toomany drawbacks to begin with. And that is tied with warrior.

God the amount of :poop: here is insane.

  • Paladins burst is whack, if you wanna out DPS the healing on Frenzied Regen, you won’t, but shamans in ele/enhance can. Tell me where that burst damage is good again?
  • the survivability/tanking is mid, cant dispel certain magic effects/curses and bubble sits on 5min CD.
  • healing is for the trash can, literally everything is hard casted compared to your hero class and heals for less even if it is a hardcast like HL/FoL.
  • the pet is just annoying, you cant even control it.
  • group utility is mid, hasn’t done loads of wonders like an AoE Freedom totem.
  • LoH is an hour CD, riptide does that heal within 3 casts within 18s.
  • You gotta pick between a kick or ranged slow (incl. swapping to a shield and back to 2h).
  • The horse is on a 45s CD and lasts for 3s, cancels when any action is done from the paladins.
  • Decent spammable damage more like a mosquitos bite every 15s.

What a troll.

Here’s what shamans can do:

  • insane single target and multi target damage, Burn should’ve been 3 targets max or you might just ask for a buff to boomkins again to be able to spread Moonfire and Sunfire to make this fair. Ontop of that Burn + Power Surge = Instant Lava Burst casts that can Overload to do another burst of damage.
  • great survivability/tankyness, shamanistic rage + mail + shield makes shamans the most durable caster bar none. ghostwolf can add to that aswell.
  • can dispel poisons/diseases + grounding, something you consistently undervalue.
  • shamans healing is instant 90% of the time + earthshield is utterly busted, even enhances selfheal is better than paladins.
  • wolves can just hit rogues out of stealth casually + stun em + heal respective shaman + grant speed boost to the respective shaman.
  • riptide also triggers instant cast Lava Bursts… what the hell.
  • Decoy Totem, literal Freedom and eats a melee hit
  • group utility is off the charts, totems have to be destoryed compared to dispelled.
  • shamans can stall more effectively than paladins, bubble sits on 5min CD and if balebolt still hits through that its gg.
  • holy spells do consistently worse damage than nature/fire spells
  • hardiness ontop all of that

Horde consistently win team fights more easily thanks to stacking shamans with Burn-Rune which will just delete your casters and healers easier than Alliance relying on hunters/SPs/Boomies to wear horde down. And even THEN you cannot wear horde groups down in PvP because of consistent mana returns from Shamanistic Rage.
There’s massive amounts of favoritsm towards horde and shamans.

Denying this is just shows howmany bad takes horde players usually got about Alliance having Paladins and bubble when there’s more counterplay to that and more outrageous than any attempted counterplay vs shamans.

If there were any proper nerfs rather than “nerfing and then giving them OP runes” in return, then the outcry of shaman nerfs wouldnt even exist. But because of those devs not nerfing it proper people will keep asking for this until they are satisfied.

What is this nonsense?

Shamans are busted since P2 and everyones knows it. Shamans and horde racials are responsible for the current PvP state : 0 warsong / AB, ppl only tag in alterac for the rep.

No wonder horde queue is bigger than alliance, given how busted they are

Hello Cry.

So what you are saying is that Horde is the OP faction for PvP? Alliance never wins?

You hardly win AV as alliance, and that is opening another bag of worms:

  • horde spawn cave is very far forward, if you played horde you meet alliance at balinda, and get a massive time advantage
  • horde village itself is filled with chokepoints for alliance to go through

The only reason it exists is because you’ve gotten so used to your swiss-army-knife toolkit that you take it for granted. And when you encounter someone who gives you a run for your money even with all the tools that you have, naturally you consider them OP.

I suggest you try playing a class that doesn’t have half the tools you have. May be then you’ll come to appreciate what you have and stop taking it for granted.

Thats correct, alliance winrate is abysmal, specially in AB

May be if you ret clowns actually learned to support your team instead of bubble rushing like 99% of you guys do these days, then you’d win more games. A proper support paladin is a nightmare to fight against in a team fight.
But what do I know, you guys are too busy spamming exo+judgement+cs+ds ad nauseam.

Good alliance premades (most of them quit) still did very good in the past, they had paladins that werent clueless bots - big factor to their success.

Since alliance front-line → horde, they utiilized this to push hard (with warrriors-palas and rogue in backline). We had to go 2x2x2x2 and lure their front line in while cutting of their backline to win those games, was the good times - when we actually had some good alliance premade PvP groups still playing the game.

And this was while these same bozos in this topic were crying that pala was weak, those premades were kicking butts.

This phase no one does premade BG´s, hell no one cares much about PvP since its in shambles.

God damn you are delusional to even say that, I play 3 classes in PvP all of which have it rough against shaman, maybe if your rotten braincell could read then you would realize that any class has been complaining about shamans.

Then you would hear people complaining about rogues/druids/priests/locks. Take a hint, people don’t complain about those but shaman, and rightfully so.

Hilarious, I play not just pally but okay LOL. And any class that I played takes way more effort than Shaman who just gets OP runes thrown at them as if it were Christmas.
It takes neg effort to play shaman at 50 than it does pally at 60.

Ah the yapping continues, support buffs which get cleansed the nanosecond paladins apply it. Truly the clowning.

And you are busy whining about paladins, literal L. Literally playing PvE and PvP on easy mode while alliance is getting screwed in DPS and healing, not to mention tanking.

Not to be pedantic or anything but you say this: “And you are busy whining about paladins, literal L. Literally playing PvE and PvP on easy mode while alliance is getting screwed in DPS and healing, not to mention tanking.” so you say that playing Horde is easy mode…ok, so to you everyone playing horde is what? A peasant?

It’s somewhat of a contradictory argument when after my post you were the first to reply and said this "if you aren’t playing an orc and/or ele shaman you are doing it wrong, it is the most broken class bar none and it is insane that the cucks at warcraft devs aint doing :poop: " so basically you, an Alliance player, were giving me advice that i should go Horde… I mean i would go to that faction after reading your first reply to this thread.

Hes just one of those people that are weaklings, so his need to be part of a group is imperative, all this talk about alliance this horde that, racials bla bla bla

He would lose to 99% of players whatever side / race/ class he played because he is simply just bad, hes just yapping and crying every day in hopes that his “exclusive” group in his mind will accept him because without this his life doesn’t have any meaning as he is incapable of improvement.

His picture should be attached next to definition of weakling everywhere.

People do complain about rogues and priests alot. But since paladin population is dominant (i wonder why lol) and shaman seems to be the only class you are having a trouble with, your whining overshadows everyone else’s

So the other team knows how to dispel/purge. Good for them. And yet you continue to whine about flame shock, which by the way is also very dispellable, but for some reason noone on your team seems to care. Like I said, they are probably too busy trying to bubble cheese their opponents. Either way this very much looks like a YOU problem, not shaman problem, wouldn’t you say?

Then why don’t you roll a shaman yourself? Maybe then after having hunters, rogues and warlocks wipe the floor with you a couble of times, you’ll come to appreciate being a paladin, who arguably has a hard time fighting ONE class while destroying everyone else. Seems like a fair trade to me.

Orizza how are things in battlegrounds? Are they really out of balance since everyone, i have read both some Alliance and Horde comments saying that Horde dominates instanced PvP.
Is this true?

I wanted to go paladin and maybe pick a tank role, i have read that i could at some point get the double specialization perk/ability, and maybe then i could get into battlegrounds.
I want to play on a PvP server even for the world PvP, maybe that way i can also learn some things about the game, classes, mechanics etc.

My issue is that i have no clue which faction to pick and from what i saw on a PvP server we can either be Alliance or Horde, we can’t have characters on both factions.

Can’t say much for WSG or AB, they barely pop. As for AV, it’s a hit and miss. You win some, you lose some. I agree, that horde has an advantage there as far as spawning point is concerned. But from my experience I’d say W/L ratio for horde is somewhere along the lines of 60/40.

As for open world pvp at least on my server (lone wolf eu) alliance usually dominates BRM event, because horde doesn’t seem to care about it and as such doesn’t try to provide at least some opposition.

As for which faction to choose, I’d say horde has a bit stronger pvp racials than alliance. Back in the original game this cause alot of pvp-minded players to roll horde, hence the myth about horde pvp dominance. Plus horde is just plain cooler, but I suppose this comes down to personal preference at the end of the day. Alliance on the other hand has paladins, which are a nightmare when played properly to support their team instead of charging into enemy lines with their bubble up. Problem is, vast majority of paladins fancy themselves great warriors of the alliance and choose to completely ignore their team.

If you are interested in tanking, shaman is incredibly strong here and very satisfying to tank with. I wouldn’t know about finer details, but I hear paladins are also very strong tanks if not the strongest tanks in the game right now.

In the end I would suggest you choose the faction that you like (aesthetically, visually or whatever other criteria you might have) not the one that’s more ‘efficient’ from a minmaxing standpoint. After all, this is a game and your first and foremost objective is to enjoy it.
