The tank rant

Yes, having tanks stop tanking is a great way to keep LFD queue timers “low” for DPS.

I just leave when i encounter players like this when i Tank. Another tank will have to deal with you guys.

But you are not playing properly. You even said so your self.

Living bomb does mild dot every 3 seconds, first tick 3 seconds after cast, and explodes, for less than a warlock seed, 12 seconds in. If you cant handle a mage casting living bombs on every target out the door, followed by Flame Strikes/Arcane explosions, I don’t know what to tell you, you chose a wrong role to play.
Probably 95% of all tanks I meet in RDF can handle dps going all out and don’t even think twice about it. You sound like one of those boomers stuck in 2005, when the tank was the boss of the group, designating CC targets and getting 3 sunders before dps even are allowed to target the mobs. Well buddy, it’s 2023 now, you will get strongest aoe on first gcd on your packs an you will hold aggro. Or if you don’t I’ll just block/invis and tell you nothing but think badly of you

Wow, Nicolay, hold your horses. I know mirror image is a dps cooldown now with 2pcs bonus of T10, but it is out first and quickest aggro management tool. Block can be saved for situation where you are going to take fatal damage otherwise.

Mirror Images will only be used on bosses because NUMBERS!

Using your entire toolkit isnt playing properly? Or what did I miss?

The reality is you play DK tank and DK tank is the worst dungeon tank, you will never hold agro against any geared dps doing any kind of AOE dps, and them holding back AOE dps to a point just ends up slowing down the dungeon because the healers can for the most part, handle a DPS having agro and taking damage.

Of the DK tanks that do have some AOE threat capability, most of them are playing Unholy for dungeon tanking, rather than Blood.

And sure it’s annoying to tank when dps are horny and will not let you pull or get initial threat, 100% agree with you, especially as I tank on a Warrior where initial agro is a requirement to generate further threat, but at some point you have to accept that tanking is an arms race against the dps, and for anything other than single target DK is just not there.

In reality you just get votekicked for a scrub that you are after slowing the group down with a death multiple times by your inconpetence or malice. We have RDF now buddy, tanks are as easy to replace as dps.

Until most of them are driven away by others acting stupid. And seeing how far diffrent peoples ilvls can be im sure that a 250 semi afk what ever can rip threat from a fully active 215 tank of any sort. Is that tank incompetent when they cant hold threat or is it the dps at fault in that case for not letting the tank have a chance (it was stupid of blizzard to let the threshold be as low as it is but thats how it is now)

Like I said earlier ITT, 95% of tanks in RDF are competent, at any gear level. I won’t say a word to a 5100 tank I rip mobs off of as long as he taunts the hardest hitting one to make it easier on the healer. In fact if anything I’ll commend him for holding half of them for first 3 gcd against an AoE beast that I am. It’s the boomers used to special treatment because of their unearned tank privilege they had for 4 years that cry ITT and that should and will filter themselves out of RDF pool soon enough.

Honestly, it’s hard for me to imagine how you can break aggro from a prot pal.

At the same time, as a DK tank, I experience certain inconveniences in AoE tanking. With 2 pieces of T10 and DnD glyph it became much better, but locks with 5800 GS takes aggro from my DK 5600 on packs with a lot of seeds in the first seconds of pull. Fortunately, there is taunt, IT and grip. But overall, DK sucks at AoE tanking.

Blood boil having increased threat gen would make us all so happy.

if people ruin your tanking without you even reaching mobs ( and in classic it is not as easy as in retail to regain treat really fast ) it’s just their fault which is very visible, if anyone tries to blame you for that it’s just laughable and you shouldn’t even care about this at this point, this is not retail where you can regain treat in very fast pace and even in retail clowning like that rarely happens

You ignore the group. You are making the life of a tank a living hell.

Im writing from the POV of a tank.

Sounds like you do not even know how tanking or threat works. But hey, who am i to judge the most elite of the elites that has unlimited taunts and abilties to take back threat from DPS that go all out AE blast without you being close to the mobs. I mean, you do you man.

Sounds like you are still playing era or hardcore. Yes, you have everything thats needed to deal even with several adds running wild, and no, you dont have to be part of an elite group of select few to be able to actually use your abilities. Is using bop on a dps really that hard? Can you really use one of your multiple taunts? Are you saving your stuns for cataclysm classic?

The dps being close to the mobs before me has literally never happened to me. You want to know why? Because I dont need an eternity to pull the next pack. When the last one is around 10-20%, im already on the way to pull more instead of waiting for them to die. Dps pulling instead of you is a clear indicator of you being too slow.

So you have never seen that the healer for some reason have blown through all of their mana (lets say for example you actually got a healer that have the minimum needed gear to enter gama) and waited for them to get a bit of mana back before pulling the next pack?

All the time or only when there is no unforeseen things going on?

Or that the DPS is rushing like they belive healers have infinite mana. Or someone actually did a stupid and managed to die from something like walking over a ledge (happened today in a group for me)

It’s definitely not, ranged be putting their dots up on stuff before the tank has pulled, when the tank is literally chain pulling. Tanks are using rocket boots to get to packs and dps are using theirs too so they don’t miss out on pre-dotting the mobs.

The concept of waiting for the tank to even gather mobs into a position they can be dps’d fastest is lost on most players, dps players largly have no clue about positioning or how tanks function.

If I’m playing my UA build the difference between me getting a good group and a dumb one is I do 12k dps in FOS while tanking a pack in a good group and I do about 3-4k in a bad group because they pull me in combat and have agro before I’m even in charge range, and the mobs never get properly positioned for cleave/aoe.
