yes, I decided to vent to complete internet strangers.
So, I love tanking, I do it in every MMO I play, and I’m doing it in WoW since 2004 as a warrior, as a paladin, and as a DK (on retail you can add monk, druid and DH).
and tanking used to be fun, it used to be engaging. i’d laugh and run dungeons with my friends and guildies, and we’d have a grand time at it.
then I made the classic (pun intended) error and decided, hey, RDF is here, let play with total strangers, I mean, what could go wrong? it’d be fine, right? right?
my god, how wrong i was. tank fraustrations? let’s name them:
AOE, it seems every warlock/mage/shadowpriest out there believes all tanks just look at the mobs and they make 1000000 threat, the seeds/living bombs/mindsears go flying before i can even move in (sometimes before i’m in range), the dps warrior charges ahead to WW and cleave before my DK even dropped D&D, the hunter multishotting everything in sight, yeesh.
class abilities? wut? i think only 1 out of 10 hunters know what Misdirection is, and out of those maybe 1 in 10 will actually use it, and of that 1% half of them use it on the healer out of maliciousness or stupidity. Tricks of the Trade? why, that’s highly contested, by the dps, it is a dps increase you know, for the highest (paying?) dps (usually translated as “omg this dps is climbing the threat meters very very fast”), feign death? soul shatter? invisibility? comon man, we don’t have the GCD for those, it’ll drop dps…
mechanics wut? there’s a reason occulus fails about 50% of the time for me and it’s called end fight where you actually need to execute mechanics rather then just pump pump, i’m not even going to talk about the number of times people died to frost patches, webs, going insane on tentacles, hell, i actually had some ranged dps walk over 5 (!!!) exploding traps in toc in a row and then scream at the healer for not doing anything.
gear score, oh, gear score, you’d get people in 5.7k GS (even 6k these days) who have no clue about threat, they are usually the most guilty of premature aoe, no aggro reduction, mechanics wut? run ahead of the tank (about 90% of them have engineering for that fotm best profession ever) to pull.
I’m not even going to talk about the raiding scene, i’m somewhat pampered by the fact my main tank is in a guild with like minded people and we have fun, chill runs. want to pug a raid? make sure you don’t need anything from it as a tank (and unlike healers and dps you can’t fake your gearscore with pvp gear)

One of the helper trolls got in before me, no surprise there.
We had one wipe in HoR yesterday and the mage in the group went mental, full caps, swearing, line after line of text with abuse for our tank, proper hissy fit, key board warrior /roar. I actually felt embarassed for the mage, not the tank. Met a racist too that mouthed off to a tank in another group.
I wish there was an emote that brought out a gnome phone like you where filming someone when they are going ape poo

If anyone needs a tldr: I suck at tanking and cant handle a dps pulling aggro because using taunt or one of my 200 other ways of dealing with this is way too hard. Please cater to my special needs by playing suboptimally, ty.
Doing mechanics and letting tank get aggro are “special needs”? xD
Most dps are players with fragile ego and low self-esteem trying to compensate this by doing numbers in video games because they can’t admit they have problems :))
As a DK tank, i lose aggro in dungeons all the time.
You don’t expect me to stop between pulls to let my runes refresh, so i pull packs with no DND up or not enough frost runes for a big threat blast.
I will taunt and death grip when i inevitably lose aggro, place down my DND and spam my threat, if i still lose aggro…
It’s not the end of the world.
Chin up RDF tanks, you aren’t losing life span because 1 mob isn’t hitting you for a few seconds.
Yes, comming from someone who tanks on dk/pala/warrior, if you cant handle dps blasting full force from the get-go, thats “special needs”. This is wrath, blizzard handed you all the tools you need to that, so just stop being bad.
Yeah, people who are playing properly and arent crying on the forum about how horrible it is to play with other people are clearly the problem in this game.

This forum is a prime pool of delusion. OP literally describes how its “everyone is at fault but me, only those stupid dps players are sooooo bad”, but the people calling him out on his nonsense are the toxic ones.
Are you even using the ring NPC buff in Heroic Gammas? I tanked Utgarde Pinnacle on 4,7 GS bear and it was fine with people barely able to get a mob from me for a split second. Do you have threat plates or plater addons to monitor AoE threat? Ripping aggro from a tank in Wrath is a feat of strengh.

I find attitude is the main issue with groups rather than gear or skills, there are a lot of high strung manchildren online and they can snap at any time.
I met Karen the tank yesterday, who basically cried about killing boss’s in a dungeon like the team wanted instead of skipping half them, swearing at team, it was pretty funnY tbh, the icing on the cake was when Karen came out with
“DONT YOU THINK I HAVE IMPORTANT PLACES TO BE?!” +some swear words in there
