Just compare these 2:
Banded Osmenite Legguards - ilvl 440 + socket
= 250 osmenite ore
Ascended Leviathan’s Eye Loop - ilvl 440 + socket
45 sage agate + 45 azsharine + 5 leviathan’s eye
Prospecting stats for osmenite: https://www.wowhead.com/item=168185/osmenite-ore#prospecting
15% sage agate
14% azsharine
48% leviathan’s eye
5 ore per prospect
So, if my math is right, this is 3000+ ore spent for 1 craft.
This disparity isn’t even remotely funny.
Especially since armor crafting professions have guaranteed sockets now as well, provide 2 items instead of one, and new questline system allows you to craft both at the same time instead of waiting weeks longer for your second item due to sanguicell / breath of bwonsamdi limits.
On some servers it costs roughly half a million gold to purchase mats for 1 craft and that’s not counting the fact the stats are random, so you might have to recraft it a couple of times.
Seriously last 3 expansions feels like constant spitting on jewelcrafters, for no apparent reason.

If you aren’t pushing smth definitely not worth the hassle
It’s just completely out of line with all the other professions, I don’t get it… tell me one reason why this profession craft should be more than 10x more expensive than alchemy stone or tailoring glove for example?

I would say that I agree that it is very inconsistent in-between professions. Hence I wrote - doesn’t look like a valid perk to pursue, a “pyrrhic” item. Unless you push mythic first or smth.
At least I chose to ignore it on my DK jewelcrafter alt altogether.
Nah it’s okay, I don’t mind having yet another jc ring that will never be useful to me. It will look pretty there in my profession tab.

And scribes facepalm at that.

I make it 1500 but you’d have lots of spare gems left over too. Fair way would be to look at the market value of the gems v the 250 ore.
And also loads of gold to be made in inscription and the new trinkets are hugely op. The int dps is stronger than my stack of 410s - 425s and its 400.
I guess it’s because rings don’t drop from world bosses, warfronts and such content, so they’re “rarer”, but I mean… if you do mythic+, rings can be traded to any class. by any class.
I’d take blood mallet/wow head with a pinch of salt on the new trinkets. None of my DPS class are getting any where near what it says. My last m+ run (for melee it’s an AoE trinket), it did 900dps, not even 1k. Wowhead/bloodmallet say it averages 7k? That’s on an outlaw rogue, did 35k dps on the run. The int one is giving same on my mage/priest as well 1/7th of what they say it gives. Averaging just under 1k per run, when they say it’s 7k dps increase.
EDIT: Just checked the sites saying 3.7k now, guessing it got a big nerf somewhere in the last week, like my 20th best trinket. They’ve added the 430/445 trinkets in there now.
sits in a corner and cries in inscription
but yeah i get what you mean. i gave up skilling jc entirely. its just material consuming with ridiculous requirements without even being really useful.
Also just dawned on me the real beauty of it is you can keep making them till you have exactly the stats you want! And secondaries are much more important than primary stats now so it’s pretty huge to be fair.
What really sucks is you can’t equip 2.
About that, slightly unrelated to the ring but it looks like the gem slot proc chance was increased in 8.2
I saw a few posts on reddit about 3 gems out of 4 drops in the new raid. It would be nice to look into this as it would be a welcome change for JW.
I bet Method spent Millions of gold for this rings…

It’s also worth considering the futility of these items, and I mean both the jc rings and bs items. Considering the customisable mechagon ring sets, and the extra effect plate legs and belt from azshara.
My gloves and legs from tailering costed me almost nothing, the price of the ring is insane buying the gems. The prospect rate of the red and green gems is beyond stupid.
One would assume a developer that works on this can understand this is out of context compared to other crafting professions. I mean we are no developers and we see how silly the cost is… Puzzled
Highly considering swapping to tailoring as the the gloves and legs you have are bis
I just calculated that on my server, Silvermoon. only the mats to create the FIRST version, 410 will cost you more than 180k gold!?!?! WTF BLIZZARD
It’s insane a company like Blizzard does not look into this, this is total bs cost compared to other profesions.
Because is the best DPS gain profession? is extremly expensive and still the majority of people who raid end game prefer it instead of tailoring/leatherworking/BS
blizzard developers stopped to work long time ago i guess, they are ignoring all the huge problems the game have right now since months
