But that’s clearly explained to not be what’s being done. Just like every other order mount, people use different backstories and use them to represent different things.
But I wanna
lip wobble
I kinda want to see someone use the priest orderhall mount. It’s so stupid and derpy, I love it.
It’s so ugly and lame, if I was in high school with that bird I would bully it.
Imagine thinking you can dictate what mount other people use in RP on the AD forums
Mounts are mostly cosmetic thing and therefore should be looked at with this in mind. If there are two versions of a mount, old one from Vanilla or early expansions and HD one, you can´t really blame people for using the newer mount, even though storywise, it was obtained by great leader of Alliance/Horde/Class Order in some exotic area instead of something you buy in Elwynn.
For example, there are two models of wolf mount, old ones and WoD ones. Storywise, all of the WoD mounts were obtained in Draenor, but should we expect players to strictly use old models instead of RPing their Draenor wolf as a mount obtained on Azeroth? Or should we say those HD horses were strictly from Gilneans/Kul Tirans?
When it comes to what should or shouldn´t be possible when it comes to mounts, we need to look at the species of the mount instead of backstory for that particular mount. So, for example, wolfhawks are really rare and those owlthings priests get are just 3 in the whole world. But HD paladin horse or “dreadsteed”?
Clearly no (serious) RPer is going to RP them as THE class mount, so what´s the big deal?
When there is an old, ugly, 2004 era mount vs a 2018+, high quality HD and fitting mount I could use instead?
Yeah, you’d better believe I will use the non-awful version 100% of the time. You can whinge all you like, one of those Warlock mounts looks bloody ancient, and the other does not. Simple as that.
Or you can use it like a normal paladin horse, which is just a spirit
Did somebody just imply that my high res mount is not actually a dreadsteed? Wtf? Next thing I’ll hear is that I can only use my class abilities, even if they get pruned. Memory loss is a common problem with WoW’s characters after all.
My divine owl lion chimera is in-character.
No one knows what it is, not even me.
Wouldn’t be able to justify IC how she gets it since isn’y actually a ‘established’ Paladin. Just a flashy light flinger is plate. xD She has some training, but she doesn’t feel comfortable with the term Paladin because she isn’t a conventional one.
Save for the cliche backstory but that’s a can of worms for another topic!
Boi, I defeated Kil’jaeden and a freaking titan (Argus)!
Lord Hel’Nurath is a weak shrimp cropper compared to me! >: o
I shall echo what many before me have already stated and say that aside from the priest mount, all others can work in RP if done well.
What say you of the wolf-hawk. There’s only 4 representations in the entire game, and they’re all strictly named. I would say that would account towards not being accessible to RP
What about Ban-Lu, Son of Xuen?
I think most people can appreciate this viewpoint. The issue is the inconsistency with which is it applied. For example it’s generally accepted that the warlock class hall mount = dreadsteed. However I’ve seen instances where for example a Draenei wants to represent a beefed up elekk in platemail and say only has access to the LF Felcrusher, and people will leap on them all “Why on earth would a Draenei like you have one of those? Who commissioned this? Don’t you know battle-ready Elekk are a limited resource?” etc.
Same with Warframes. Despite the evidence that plenty exist, lots of people freak out if your character has one in RP, even if your reasons for doing so are plausible (ie you’re a LFD whom is a warframe pilot), there’s very much a section of the community whom are like “yeah well wouldn’t you have had to have that authorised by Fareeya? You Rp you know her?” type hot mess.
I couldn’t give a hoot about mounts mostly, mine are very rarely what they literally are, and where they are I don’t feel the need to have a hugely intricate justification for having it. My Rylak is the Iron-Skyreaver model, but for my Priest it doesn’t have the engines attached, it’s simply one he took from a Frostwolf scout during the war with the Iron Horde (when he was fighting with the Iron Horde), whereas my Mag Hunter Rylak does have the engines, because he was a Warflyer during the WoD events and he rides the same Rylak and still makes use of the Iron tech. I make sure my TRP and mount TRP makes these details clear. My Priest also has one of the Bloodseekers which he picked up in Nazmir. Yes, he literally just found one, and took it, in Nazmir. That’s what happened in game, that’s how I wrote it. He found one that was tethered down, unguarded, and decided to take it back to where he’s currently residing in Nazmir. If people have a problem with that, that’s on them. What mount someone rides is hardly the biggest thing about their character (unless they’re a pilot or member of cavalry, my priest is neither)
In short, if someone offers you something that is a reasonably plausible explanation for them having X mount, just leave it alone. Nobody likes the guy who turns it into an opportunity to go all Wowpedia on your backside and point out how actually wolves of that colouration only belonged to the Bloodstained Broccoli Clan who are now non-existent so if you have one you must be BREAKING THE LORE (whilst ignoring the irony in their character possessing this incredibly encyclopedic knowledge).
Point is, most character won’t freaking know if the owl-thing is one of three will they? So you could easily play it as some exotic animal. If jimmy the peasant starts asking questions about how “hey there I’m pretty sure those Seekers are a rare commodity aye? That looks like a Seeker, not a gryphon.” then they’re the one who’s breaking with the immersion more.
You know there’s an engine less Rylak model ingame, right (two now, actually, a red one and a purple one!)
That said I’m generally (mostly) oke with that, but only within reason, like how I use my Shado-Pan tiger as nightsaber etc, but I do have difficulty with someone… extreme examples.
What’s the general opinion on “Similar but different animal” being used to circumvent this?
To be fair who would even want to use that one.
Fair point, I certainly don’t.
I use the dark Shado-Pan tiger as a pandaren armored nightsaber on my night elf monk.
I understand that. What i’m trying to put across is if the person opposite me really can’t divorce the small in-game engines on my Rylak model, and imagine it without them, insisting I go and grind out a specific mount to meet their standards, then their imagination shows limited capacity for the rigours of an RP server.
I totally get it when people completely take the whizz. I’m not talking about those, but reasonable amendments to presented models is fine, and if somebody tells me the glowing green cat they’re riding is something other than Ban, so long as it’s plausible and not completely outlandish, i’ll take it rather than insist they use another model. It just seems like such a small point to get tied up over.
I only have issues when people literally claim the rare-OOC mount is in fact the rare-IC mount. Like dude is actually riding Son of Xuen. That is when I have a problem.
