The wow "Who" system is broken

Basically for days, through this system, I’ve been trying to catch the gm of a guild online so I can talk to him. I click on who, I write the name, but I can not find it online. I always write the guild name on who, and no one can find me.
Without writing anything, I update the who list and find two members of that guild online. I add the gm’s name as a friend and he tells me he’s online. I try to find it again with who, but still can’t find it online. The who system showed me only two members of that guild online, but after joining the guild, I see that there were 14 online. But the system only ever showed me two of them online.
Now, for next time, would there be an add on that replaces this broken system and actually shows you online at that moment?

Slash Who has been broken for quite a long time now. Intentionally so. Blizzard did not like that people were able to figure out how many people were playing by scaning servers with addons.

Admitedly, those addons also caused server wide lag when too many people used them. At least according to Blizzard.

I don’t think it will ever be modified to fit the complexities of cross-server sharding and all that jazz.

No its because of people in different modes there could be 50 people in SW but might show only 20 cause other 30 are in WM for example.

This choice for me was stupid. Might as well remove the Who tab completely at this point. This doesn’t make sense. (Not your answer, mind you :slightly_smiling_face:)

Just think that in order to guild me, the gm had to invite me to a group, because in turn, he couldn’t find me online…

/who g-“guild name” to get an accurate result of a guilds members on your realm
and yeah its been this way for years

I do remember them breaking he census data at one point in one of the Classics, it just stopped working. I’m not sure if there are still issues with census gathering, but without an armory they must be managing somehow.

I don’t believe WM is a factor in the issues. I can /who people I know are online and in the same WM as me and they don’t show. I also thought SW/Org are one of the places we see people regardless of WM choice.

I have no idea why it doesn’t work though, I don’t think I’ve seen any official explanation. That’s not to say there isn’t one ofc :grinning:

Naah. They broke it deliberately. They broke many other things around the whole time, that prevented players getting activity and character numbers.

They broke the auction API that allowed sites like RealmPop to get numbers. They broke the /who API to prevent addons like CensusPlus from working.

This wasn’t all coincidence.
