I deplore your inability to partake in a debate with arguments, rather than with insults.
Banning something does not mean trying to take away human rights.
Countless things are currently banned, including some other drugs which I mentioned earlier.
I’m engaging in a public debate on the forums.
This should tell you anything you need to know about my stance on freedom of expression.
That would raise a a new generation where the stigmatised and excluded have nothing but death to look forward to. Meanwhile idiots will still be idiots doing idiot things, the only difference is that they wouldn’t be intoxicated while doing so.
And instead, your alternative to death is that they should be looking forward to…alcohol and drugs?
No. Addictive substances are not the help those most stigmatized and excluded need.
And not being intoxicated means they’ll be less likely to hurt themselves or others.
By the way, tobacco is the deadliest, and is neither a drug that’s exclusively “consumed by idiots” nor is it one that fundamentally changes your behaviour and “turns you into an idiot”.
It’s literally just a bar of addictive poison. One you can’t stop consuming, that deteriorates your lungs, as well as those of the people near you.
I’ve done self-harm, and guess what? Never have I been intoxicated or drugged in my entire life.
So are video games to the right person - In fact, violent video games can trigger (already unhinged people, mind you) lunatics to go out and copy what they do in violent games against real life people.
Not the first time.
But because it’s socially acceptable and, in some settings, even encouraged, they give it a shot. And since they’re addictive by nature, they can’t stop afterwards.
Okay, and?
Being intoxicated increases the likelihood that you’ll engage in reckless behaviours.
It does not mean that being drunk or high is a requirement to engage in reckless behaviours.
Everything and anything can be addictive to small minorities of people.
What I’m talking about here is over 10,000,000 deaths per year.
It is easy for you to attempt to solve societal issues in the blink of an eye, but this is an ignorant statement. Do you really think people would be stigmatised and excluded empty husks if they were supported and included in their society? No, the reason people are where they are is because the society wants them there to begin with!
But that doesn’t change the fact that alcohol and drugs is not going to help those people.
In fact, it will hurt them even more because nobody’s going to hire an addict.
Again, I agree with you that we need to work towards finding solutions to avoid the issues you described and to help those who need it most.
Showering them with alcohol and drugs is not it.
That’s my job actually.
I work in a temporary agency specialized in giving jobs to the people most excluded: the disabled, refugees, the illiterate, prisoners, etc.
It’s not enough of course, and there’s more to be done. But society is already making (small) steps in that direction.
Probably true for the current generation if we take drugs away from them, sadly.
But another sad truth is: those suicides will still be a significantly smaller number than the 11,000,000 deaths/year from drugs, 8,000,000/year from tobacco, and 3,000,000/year for alcohol.
We can’t prevent all deaths. Might as well prevent the biggest number.
