Why people don’t play wow is the topic lately. More and more people are starting to get uninterested in Dragonflight. But wait, there are so many patches right? Well it’s not about quantity, but quality and uniqueness. Also story and characters.
Warcraft was born as a game of… war between two factions. Today is a game of… kisses and hugs, blunt storylines/villains, about the relationship of characters you don’t care about. Where is the fantasy? The tension? The heroic characters we all love.
The game today has nothing to do with the game even 6-8 years ago. It just follows the safe formula with nothing fundamental and… risky to add. No wander why the classic population looks more healthy than in retail.
Lets hope Microsoft shakes the company a little bit because the game at the end is gonna die out of boredom.
Even in warcraft 3 the factions united.
WoW has done faction war 3 times and you know what? By the third time no one cared anymore. It was forced and pointless .
We got war in every single expansion. War against the Illidari, against the scourge, against deathwing, against the legion, against the old gods, against the naga, against the jailor, against the primalists.
These are wars that can have real consequences, which the faction war cannot.
There is no lack of wars in warcraft, and they are far more interesting than the beaten to death trope of blue vs red.
Throughout the expansions we’ve either been fighting each other or teaming up to fight a common enemy.
I wasn’t a fan of removing the faction barrier, however, the Alliance was effectively dying. More and more Alliance guilds were transferring to Horde. It was a farce. Those that were left on Alliance struggled to recruit, struggled to find players for pugs etc etc.
So as a necessity we have cross faction play. So that everyone can play the game regardless of their preferred faction.
It is very simple
This new generation of children like more childish and rainbow games
Even in pvp they are softer and more considerate
A simple example: I got kicked out of the group because I talked about Mortal Kombat.
I am sure you understand
Dont think thats accurate, most children/teens like stuff like game of thrones for example, its just that the parents dont think their children should like that stuff, so they restrict it as much as possible. Sure some children might enjoy rainbows etc but i bet those dont play games and sit on activist forums.
I agree from a story perspective, Zaralek imo was a bit of a miss and because there’s no faction conflict storyline to fall back on thats just it for the 10.1 which is a damn shame because I did like how 10.0 started.
Gameplay wise, yeah allow horde and alliance to group together, but in the long run I think for the alliance its better to keep the story of faction divide present and give the alliance some cool and interesting moments through the story to kind of rekindle faction pride on that side to hopefully get more people to play there now that finding group members is no longer an issue because of cross faction play.
this tbh, I dont get the “oh my god heroic characters in the story woooo”
personally I just skip all cinematics, I want to get to actual content, not watch a movie, I really dont care, for all I know they could all be dead back as ghosts I would have absolutely no idea
Yes
One YOU play, and one A.I. controlled enemy faction, tho’ had a “PvP” mode, that never was that popular
In both Warcraft 1-2 you had the chance (or rather, it was the whole point) to win against the orcs as the humans or the humans as the orcs and Warcraft 3 whole story was to band together, make peace and win against a new threat that want everyone dead.
And you won.
In WoW you can’t win
Nor in game, nor in story
It is stagnant endless cycle that loops back to itself; forced - pointless - conflict, followed by forced (tho’ in reality not really forced, in lore everyone basically just want that always: ) peace.
And the Game itself, WoW is not about WAR
It is called World of Warcraft because it is in the setting/unvierse of the previous Warcraft Games - and I would remind you again, those games ended with an all out peace, harmony and hope we could have a future together to survive when almost we became extinct and Azeroth was conquered/destroyed.
The world of warcraft ended up and should be in peace
Ok but now we have a situation where Zaralek is just uninteresting which means that without faction conflict also being in the back ground 10.1 is just it… just a dull story in a dull cave
the elements should be there in the story if only to have something to fall back on or to just have more then one story thread running.
I’m all for keeping the faction restrictions lifted where it comes to gameplay, but storywise without the conflict its just dull.
Now why its dull would be a good question, it could just be that the writers simply struggle to write something interesting without the conflict, it could be that they’re trying so hard to get away from where we were (conflict) that there’s 0 transition, its just oh btw 3 years have passed behind the scenes and we’re all peacefull now.
I’m just not interested in mole-people who came out of nowhere and are made up from shallow characters, who’s only passion is dirt and snails.
Newest cinematic looks nice though, ppl getting a bit tortured, something that actually matters to another playable race (night elves) at stake. Didn’t care much about the dragons either before, since all of the trouble was like “their business” and not ours (the normal citizens of Azeroth). Now with Iridi wanting to lure the Titans back this has changed a bit.
The caverns - and this is my personal opinion - is a horribly designed, dare I say Maw/Shadowlands PTSD inducing place
In one of the pervious topics Tah and I have a discussion about it, how the Caverns could have been a real subterranen enviroment, rich with life, or have an atmosphere that is like the rest of the dragon Isles yet the design ended up in a dull place that reminds many of the Maw, with basically four parts, sickly green, dull grey, eye hurting red and nausea inducing yellow.
It have nothing to do with peace or war, simply aesthetic if you asks me and design flaw
The caverns’s story in its core could have been good, I mean Iridikron tore open the Earth to reveal Neltharion’s dirty secret, his laboratory of disgustiing and horrible experiments and lured the Dracthyr there to be either corrupted or tear themself apart while he working on their plan and give his brother a shadowflame boost - and even that itself was a diversion - while Fyrakk burns the Isles he could work without notice and interruption - and that plan actually worked!
Dragonflight is basically unique expansion wher the Bad Guys… acheive their goals!
Raszageth the Storm-Eater tho’ she lost her life - narrowly, mind you - freed her brothers and sister and that was her plan all along - and to make a moral stance! And she achieved that too, because hell, many agree with the Primalist
Iridikron succesfully drove our attention from himself, gave his brother a powerboost and let him loose to wreak havoc (and let’s not forget he managed to in one timeline “create” Murozond as per his agreement with the Infinites and in another to get the essence of Galakrond to further his plans with the void - so in both cases it was a win win)
Fyrakk is a simple minded idiot, but still, what he wanted, he done it - caused as many fiery death and short term revenege as he could - now he set his eyes on the World Tree (and knowing the Night Elf history with Wolrd Trees I would bet good money he at least corrupts it if it is not corrupted already or char it)
The Dracthyr went inside and it was a close call to the good guys to win, but their story continnued to discover their heritage, and while we speak heritage, the Black Flight was forced to face their ugly past, came terms with it and finally point an Aspect. From their part it was full of personal growth and progressed story
The story was, in my opinion, quite good… just aesteticly the place is horrible
And that it’s annoying to get there and back to Valdrakken again (flying through the tunnel is fun the first 2 times, afterwards it’s just time consuming). If Loam had a Valdrakken portal, things would look better already.
the issue for me with zaralek is that up until you actually get to the payoff which mostly happens in the raid is that you’re either babysitting 3 brothers with family issues or babysitting the mole people / their snails. While the giant dragon hunters whose name I forgot because they just don’t have any lore did have a pressence; they still barely had any lore added to them other then that they have elders who are slightly bigger giants
My arguement is that; if we still had story conflict going, the game would be less dependant on the story that isn’t the faction conflict to succeed or turn the whole story dull, its obvious that there is a division on faction conflict vs not storywise, the most obvious solution would then be to not hyperfocus on one thing but have two story threads; Faction relations and worldly threats.
The two can exist side by side and honestly people trying to go ham on anti war saying its bad, to you maybe, but we’ve always had wordly threats AND faction conflict, why axe one completely and hope that half of what we used to have can carry the rest of the story?
Also I don’t mind that the bad guys achieve their goals, the issue is they’re not doing anything with it. Fyrrak achieved his shadowflame and what does he do? He terrorizes a devoid of life (asides from some Tuskarr fishing outpost of 3 buildings) icefield and a cliffside in Ohnaran planes that I’m pretty sure was just open unused real estate twice a week and we never get a real conclusion there. Asides from Zaralek though I feel like the dragon content we did get just didn’t do the dragons any favours. Did Alexstrasza have to be dumbed down to explain to an audiance of 25-35 y/o’s (on average I know the range is much bigger) that OSHA violations = bad?
Indeed
The “worst part” it would even make sense
The two global superpowers (tho’ if anything Dragonflight proved, the two world dominating powers are nothing and Mamastraxa was enough to squint her eyes to behave and we behave because the real power are THEM) train together in war games, while retaining their cultural identity to hone their skill so when Void/Legion/whatever shows up we would be ready
