Things i did not know about the new CurseForge client!

  • If you install the CurseForge beta client it will install another client named OverWolf (without telling you)

  • If you open the CurseForge client, it opens the OverWolf client in the background.

  • Both clients use more memory than Chrome with mulitple tabs open on youtue/wowhead etc

  • If you try to close Overwolf, it automatically closes the CurseForge client

  • If you uninstall Overwolf, it automatically uninstalls the CurseForge client

  • From what i can tell the Overwolf client has nothing to do with addon managemnt

Thought some of you may find the above of interest!

Apologies if this has already been posted, will delete when notified.

nice to see you back, Farmer - however, you are a day early for your joke threads

I assure you this is a serious post, decided I wanted to try the client out with the intention of subscribing if it did the job, however it turns out this second client has put me off!!

Try WoWup - much more lightweight and no bloatware on it

Overwolf owns Curseforge, therefore it will shut both down automatically. It’s ether use both or neither I’m afraid.

Btw, does anyone have proof of the Overwolf malware?

oh boy, you in for a treat once those people see your question.

If your PC struggles for memory then no you may not want to run Curseforge once a day to briefly update your addons and close it again.

I personally don’t find it taxes my PC and I open Curseforge in the morning after I boot up, update the necessary and close it again. Yes it would be nice if it didn’t open Overwolf in the background but when I close Curseforge it closes both.

I have not found it to have any malware, I have found it easy to shut down all the usual pesky settings like sharing data, customised ads, sharing your details with third party permissions, no overlay, no autostart up, close everything when I exit. It does not run in the background after I close it all down, it does not impact my gameplay.

Twitch will stop working on 2nd December and the addon tab will vanish. There are a lot of alternatives for those that want to use something else:-

For anyone that wants to try Overwolf’s Curseforge, you can find it here:-

I was just about to ask the same x)

The only reason I know puny isn’t necessarily paid, is because there’s always a link to ogri-la

just update your addons manually lole all that bloatware is making your PC cry

Seen the OW UI, didn’t like it. Not exactly assessibility friendly a t all with the small dots on one side of the screen so they may have issues there at one point in future.

There are alternatives but if it means most mods get onto another site and more competition happens then it’s a good thing.

I’m just not going to use the curse client or OW that comes with it.

It seems being informative isn’t welcome. Some will always be snarky.

I actually went and tried Curseforge after having issues with WowUp and I wanted to see what all the hysteria was about. I don’t care what people use.

The ogrila link is really nice because it offers many alternatives.

I used Overwolf for another game and it took me 3 days to get rid of the malware and bloatware, However I decided to give it a check specifically for Curseforge and so far I have noticed nothing bad.

The main thing to remember is when installing, check the settings and make sure you switch off anything you don’t want.

So to be fair, so far so good.

If everyone does themselves a favour and refuses to touch this detritus then they might go away. However it wont happen and more companies with no morals and scant regard to laws will be allowed to flourish.

Yes or do that, I forgot to mention that method!

Wowup’s fine too. You may need to rescan folders occasionally but the updates seem to be fine - I’ve been using it for several weeks. It’s got addons from both Curse & WowInterface.
