I’m wondering what it’s like getting into a guild and if yall with more experience think it’s worth it or if it’s better to level an alliance character and leave my lovely lock on the higher pop rpless server he resides on!

You can also make a trial class and roam about without having to spend money and see what sides you like.
Level matters very rarely for roleplay, gear certainly doesn’t and getting to a level that’d allow you to get into relevant zones is faster and easier than ever before.
You could spend a few hours getting to like lvl30 and just figure out if you like the roleplay in general or the faction that you’ll prefer more, the race, story arc, or whatever else before making any final decisions.
Experiment and explore a bit is what I’d suggest you do first, you can always transfer later if you feel like it, there’s no need to rush.
