This game is so confusing

Its not really. Going for a high pop server is not that uncommon for obvious reasons. And Orc Warrior is the most generic class race combination there is.

I agree. I started in WotLK and I had no clue about anything before I reached level 80. After that I began to understand things more and more as I went on.

That and well, you cant expect to understand everything when joining a game as a new player that has been going on for 17 to 18 years + the RTS games before that. You are bound to be left with question marks as the game wont stand still and you also cant expect the game to start from scratch every time a new xpac launches and ignore previous lore (although blizzard has a kink for retconning a lot of stuff)

Have my sympathy even someone like me who started way back in 2008 also was initially confused as to what I should do but it was not as bad as what you have described here which is pretty disjointing to a new player as it seems now the experience is bent on getting everyone to the new content and skipping as much as the old foundations of the game as possible.

I actually restarted three times and by the fourth time got the hang of what I was doing and then it made more sense. My best and only advice with WoW if you are new in its current state is to ignore the way the game pushes you as a new player to do the newest or recently new content first this is unhelpful when the stuff at the start becomes more intertwined with the current stuff.

I personally just kept going and eventually, the game began to make more sense when I cleared zones on levelling and did not rush to travel to other parts of the game too fast. For me it’s fluid but after nearly 14 years of play and then also knowing the RTS games as well I am kind of an old hand now.

All I’d say is persist with it and do not go down the forced route which is presented if you decide to do a new character starts in the zone whichever race you pick is from and work through it and out and ignore the pushing again when it crops up always endeavour to play this game the way you want to play it not what the forced route dictates you should.

They need to fix the game and overhaul it to make it better for new blood coming in but right now it’s a mess and that’s not high on the list to do.

To be fair I started in Vanilla and didn’t have a clue about half of what was going on or why and that was even after having played the stand along RTS series as well.

It’s a big massive world so it is always going to be confusing to some degree.

As for outlevelling zones, that has also been a thing from the beginning in a lot of zones, the others you ran out of quests before you could safely travel on so ended up killing mobs to grind for XP.

I do think that there could be a short cinematic for new players to give them an overview of what has gone on before but you’re never going to be able to square the circle that was caused by the cataclysm.

And how many would just skip the cinematic or not pay attn

Skip it and then complain!

Maybe make it a scenario instead like the Ardenweald thing…

I’d advice you Kekmorg to try out classic. Retail is not the adventure you think it will be.

Build libraries in both Orgimmar and Stormwind (Or Ironforge since if i recall correctly Ironforge has a wing dedicated to stuff like that) that include every single piece of lore that is relevant for the main plot. Including certain cutscenes.
