This game is total sensory overload

Comming back from classic to retail in the first hour i zoomed through my first dungeon and got titanforged pants. Coming into Orgrimmar is like walking into Disneyland. You immediately get bombarded by everything and your brain just shuts down.

What the hell happened to this game. Maybe i am just getting old…

Vault End boss is sensory overload for me.
Purple + Blue hue of EVERYTHING, included every mechanic and stuff you have to look out for.
It’s hue is just overwhelming alone, and then makes for bad communication.
Then we have the foliage always getting in the way when in dungeons if you accidentally turn a certain way…

We’re all getting older, but there’s also some design flaws.
I’m not sure how a pair of titanforged pants is sensory overload tho; it’s just loot that you lucked out on.
Happens… to some! :frog: stares at salamander mount that is refusing to drop

Just wait til you join a raid and are told to stack in melee. It’s like watching fireworks.

That’s why when in raids I just close my eyes and play by what the DBM tells me to do…

don’t worry op there are 894233 addons you need to install so you can switch your brain off and let them do all the heavy lifting welcome to retail

“This game is total sensory overload”

Yup, I agree. M+ and raids in modern WoW have way too much stuff going on and I think it’s not fun anymore. I’d rather have fewer but deadlier abilities to deal with.

Capital cities are bloated with quest markers that try to get your attention. I find them extremely distracting and annoying in the main city hubs like Valdrakken. There are too many quest types: campaign quests, normal quests with an extra world map marker, normal quests, weekly quests, daily quests, and special event quests. I only care about the few weekly quests that improve character power, e.g. the M+ and TW dungeon quests. I don’t want to see anything else, especially on alts. Who actually enjoy repeating quests? They should be account-wide.

My theory is that classic is better because it was a minimalistic, low fantasy setting. Everything we have now feels too bloated and over the top.

Say what? Since when are elves, demons and worst of all gnomes with a truckload of magic a low fantasy setting.

I agree.

I never do M+ or raid for that reason.

Mhm. That point of view of yours might explain why you havent killed anything.

Just go see What heroic Raszageth at the Second intermision stage looks like:

2 big elite elementals firing thunder ball danmaku in all directions at the same time that travel across the platform
+
Random void zones with lightning stikes
+
Several small elementals spawning from each big elemental and traveling to the other big elemental
+
1 giant angry proto drake strafing the platform while spitting a lightning laser after doing an animation of even more particles of electricity rise from the ground and gather at her jaws

I agree too. This also applies to pvp, especially arena. This used to be normal for me, but now in df it has finally become tiring and, above all, not fun. Now all classes have all possible tools, several ccs etc. The classes, apart from being overbloated with tools, have almost no uniqueness anymore. And ofc, there are 10 addons, weak auras and even those where the voice literally tells you what’s going on and who used what, who is cc-ed etc. I thought this was my problem, but this season’s participation, which is probably the lowest ever, speaks volumes (which is especially strange for the first season). Ofc there is also the good old balance that always contributes to this, but this time it was not so bad ie it was not as bad as it sometimes used to be.

In short, poor and outdated game design. A rework of the talent system could have fixed this, so that instead of being overbloated with tools, each class has its own unique ability and utility, where you won’t need 5 addons and 3 weak auras to track 15 different ccs etc. Where you will have fewer things to follow, but if you are caught the consequences will be more punishing. A simpler but at the same time more punishing design. The same design can be applied to raids and dungeons.

Ofc there will always be the top 3% (not to say 1%) of players who will always be proud to show off their micro skills with their 20 chars and 20 addons and weak auras, but such a design will neither retain the remaining majority nor attract new players.

Calling that a Danmaku is an insult to Danmaku. Especially since you can easily tank hits from the balls. Even on Mythic you can tank hits of them unless 2 of the 3 adds are dead and it goes haywire.

Mostly an annoyance really. They arent particularly deadly. They are more annoying during the main stages with Ras body blocking the view.

They also die in seconds. Not much different than previous bosses who spawned a lot of mini adds.

Sort of agree. But its the theme of the drake. If it were a fire drake you would have the floor turn into lava instead sort of like it did during Ragnaros.

A major step forward would be if we could adjust particle density separately for friendly and hostile spells.

On the contrary i personally get extremely bored with slow paced content lacking stuff like classic so i love retail.

Way way to much deadly AoE and one shot mechanics in succession. SL with covenant abilities made me quit raids as it was far too much and murder on my processor. Who ever is designing the dungeons mechanics and even M+ affixes is a sadist taking his hate for his job/boss/company out on the player base.

I do feel that the game is a bit too fast for its own good. As someone who didn’t do arena prior to DF, I can say that most of the time I have no idea what’s going on. I don’t know what half the abilities do in this game, honestly. And all the procs that all classes have going on. I don’t have time to hover over enemy bars and read what the procs do in-game. The game is way too fast for that. You know when I got back into retail back in SL I was really surprised to see that Rogues didn’t have a movement penalty in stealth. And if they un-stealth they can stealth again in 2 seconds. That to me really speaks of how fast paced the game has gotten since Vanilla. And I have to say, there’s no way it has to be this fast. At some point in time someone made these decisions to speed the game up to this extent, but I don’t know if it was the correct decision. And it might take a lot of courage to go back on that.

Maybe you are.

And kind of boring now that we have retail to compare it with.

I don’t know how old you are, OP, but I’m going to be 50 this year and I’m loving retail.

I did make a character on WOTLK classic when it launched - it was the current expansion when I started playing, so I wanted to see if it was how I remembered it. It reminded me why it took me so long to get a character past level 20. I got bored and uninstalled when my character was just level 13.

Retail is busy and hectic, and I feel TIRED after an evening of raiding or running back to back mythic plus, but it’s so much fun.

my only solution so far is settin Partikel Density to “low” or sometimes “fair” and spells down to Essential.

I still find (as melee) that there is WAY to much effect going on. Im more or less playing blind without seeing my character.
The second solution to this problem is a Weakaura that just makes a big + on the player position. So you at least KNOW where you are in this effect clusterf***.

Btw. i would love to “hide” allied players. Make them some round 2D circles on the ground maybe with a dd/tank/heal symbol… Better Nameplates for allies (like the RaidNameplates WITHOUT the HP bar for allies, you really cant read the normal nameplates, i know that there is some way todo it but i dont use platers and it only works there…).

There are at least a dozen ways to make visibility better. Like a Camera that dont get blocked by Trees! Why cant stuff get transparent if it is between my character and camera? Why cant i c anything at for example razageth if im under one of his wings? There are AoE circles on the ground but you cant c them course of the wings.
WHY is the Character Outline (that you can activate so you get a yellow outline around your character) NOT on top of everything? Why is it so small? Why cant i c it something is ontop of me?

I almost exclusively play melee specs and this isn’t a problem I have (although I do choose not to play races with small character models). I also know that my character is in the middle of the screen.
