This mindless grind

Got to increase the Renown, got to do those ridiculous WQs in Revendreth, or anywhere, why again, and again, and always Blizzard ignores the player base and locks important progress behind those boring activities? I raid, I do M+: let me spend my game time there because this is what I enjoy doing, and let renown and rep and Soul Ash and Stygia and Anima and whatever else drop there, so I don’t have to spend my time on those pathetic quests.

So I am in Revendreth doing those ultra ridiculously boring quests, I am in the middle of the map, got to travel to the next WQ, look around surrounded by walls and no path in sight, so HS to Dalaran, back to SW, back to Oribos and taxi to the next WQ back in Revendreth. The Maw is the same, use the glyph to go back quick, and if no glyph just HS out of that stupid place.

This “long winded” trip is easier than the artificial and arbitrary awkward travelling without flight whistles.

I cannot imagine who enjoys grinding those quests in the Maw, or anywhere, and why all these years Blizzard does not listen: give players multiple ways to collect vital rewards, some players like PvP, some like M+, some enjoy raiding and nothing else, and some may enjoy WQs - why can’t there be multiple paths to same rep, renown, anima, soul ash etc?

Basically you’re complaining that an MMO-RPG isn’t just an instanced boss fighting simulator.

The game has to have stuff outside of raids. Those activities need to be relevant and rewarding.

The ohsoawful renown “grind” is what…? 1 weekly quest that is super quick, another to collect 1k anima which you’ll get via raids and M+, and I forget the 3rd renown quest, so obviously it’s not lengthy.

Oh noooo… how could they force so much upon you.

PS the entire second paragraph is just you complaining about you being bad at map navigation. How is that the games fault?

There is something very, very wrong with game design, when the easiest, painless, automatic and quickest path from one WQ in Revendreth to another WQ in Revendreth, or from one quest in the Maw to another quest in the Maw, is through old/new Dalaran or Deepholme using HS, rings, potions etc. If you do not understand what I mean then you do not know how to travel.

Basically as much as flying “trivialises the map” and that’s why it is typically disabled in new expansions, so do all the other means of instant travel, eg HS, portals, rings, cloaks etc. They try to make the Maw a foreboding place, they try to make Revendreth hard to navigate, yet they allow me to use HS to get out of there in a jiffy. So why not let me have the Flight Whistle?

Fine, where did I say otherwise? This does not mean they must be the SOLE activities that confer certain rewards, eg Soul Ash. There should be many ways to skin the cat to appease to the wider player base. As an example how many times we hear PvP players complaining havingf to do dailies, PvE quests in order to progress in PvP? They hate it. I do not do or like PvP but I do understand them.

No, that’s not what he’s saying, that’s what you’re saying. Maybe read again.

Nice try though.

Dear Staronn,

I am afraid you are missing the point of a MMORPG. MMORPG is a type of game in which you MUST spend hours immersed in a meaningful experience. If you don’t have the time to spend 40+ hours per week playing the game, why do you play an MMORPG?

You want instant gratification, you want to be showered and emailed epics just for logging in (or renown, soul ash, stygia, anima whatever) when the entire point of playing an MMORPG is the struggle, the effort, the feeling of annoyance and punishment that you manage to overcome after hours and hours of running in circles on the map.

If you are not willing to put the effort in, you don’t DESERVE any reward in an MMORPG. For future complaints, kindly refer to The Rules of MMORPGs first, before complaining on forums.

Regards,

Blizzard Entertainment

PS. Sigh, the irony.

You could always fall behind on renown and then enter the catchup phase where you do get renown from doing dungeons

Why not just set your hearthstone to Oribos?

It should be. Open world activities are boring and unchallenging. Who even enjoys killing open world monsters? They’re not a threat. They always die easily.
What’s the point, where’s the fun?

If worldbosses were actually challenging to kill and requried an organized raid then people would

a) never do them, not worth the effort

b) cry on the forums that their source of gear/power/ressource is too hard to do with randoms.

This is simply false. I spend a lot of time in Revendreth doing WQ and covenant story and simply herbing when I have free time and each WQ location is placed close enough to a flight or path back to a flight point that anyone with the smallest amount of common sense does not need to hearth out of the zone into old dalaran any other non SL zone for ease and if that was an issue why not set your hearthstone in oribos? Or your covenant and save yourself such a convoluted and pointless travel time?

As for the maw you literally get 5 charges per device on that thing you buy from Ve’nari, you arrive in the maw next to Ve’nari, apply some brain power and make sure you have some charges left before headed out and hey presto! No need to hearth to old dalaran.

Sheesh some people will complain about anything, even self made problems.

If you think WoW has Grind, you must be very very new to the mmo-community.

“Mindless grind”

Oh, sweet summer child… you haven’t seen mindless grinds yet.

And you’re playing the wrong game.

Yeah, its a huge grind. I feel the same, i like pvp but its all burst v many players with 10 to 15 item levels higher as i dont pve much so i die as a healer very fast if focused. Rogues and mages pretty can take me out a fight as they see fit. So to gear up its so slow as all locked behind something else so. Its pve or just die a lot and wait for time to pass so i can progress. Whilst i do that its back to all the awful things you mention. Maw, thorg, daillies, renown, stygia, plus honour, conquest caps that all intertwine to attempt to keep you subbed.

… it is not. Revendreth has elevators everywhere. You suck at navigation and you’re unwilling to learn.
And no idea why you’d HS out of the Maw to go to another Maw world quest.

If you quit hearthing out every time you get slightly lost you’ll actually learn the map.

It’s like me eating soup with a fork and then complaining that it’s hard to eat.

“you do not know how to travel” coming from the guy who can’t move around Revendreth without getting lost and having to HS out. lmao.
Yeah, HS-ing out and going through a bunch of portals and a flight path is totally quicker than “oh hey I’ll double back for 30seconds and take that elevator up”.

Einstein.

My interest in WoW never stopped this early in an expansion.
While I do praise Shadowlands for amazing environment, music, narrative and leveling experience…the rest just goes downhill really fast.

Story progression is locked behind content that nobody enjoys.
I can’t force myself to do Torghast and farm anima on both my main and alts. It’s pain enough on my main.
But why lock the story behind this?
If it’s already time-gated, why not just LET us do story after weekly reset without these chores?

I’m hardly even logging in lately, all my friends stopped as well.
After hearing that I have to do Twisting Corridors to progress with story I called it quits.

I play this game to enjoy, to see story and I’m also a completionist/collector. Shadowlands has to be the MOST unfriendly expansion for me thus far.
I don’t enjoy raiding nor M+ , but SL end-game truly offers little to nothing for me…and anima grind is really, really not what I’d call ‘fun’.

Pretty much all of the Shadowlands exclusive stuff is excruciatingly bad. The stuff I enjoy in game is the same as it has always been but I have found nothing from shadowlands to be engaging or fun, especially the forced story campaign and the terrible world quests/rewards.

A mindless grind is a mindless grind, length has nothing to do with it.
