This talent disparity is ridiculous

I mean, don’t get me wrong. It’s not that I WANT to play Dark Slash or (especially) Fel Mastery but the amount of dead talents on Havoc tree is astounding. There are some builds (like Momentum) that are dead in raids for reasons other than numbers but if you look at Dark Slash and Fel Mastery, they are actually 7k DPS loss compared to First Blood. How can you screw up the balancing on such an easy spec with so few things happening is beyond me.

Just as a disclaimer, I love First Blood and want to keep playing it. I think it should, in one way or another, be baked into the spec and Havoc damage just retweaked to compensate, but in what universe is this ok? I don’t think any other spec has talents that are literally 7k below others.

The demon hunter talent trees, both for havoc and vengeance, are really poorly designed.

With havoc, the only talent I sometimes change is Netherwalk vs. Soul Rending, depending on the raid encounter. As you said, all the damage-related talents unfortunately have 1 clear winner. :frowning:

There are 2 perfectly viable talent builds for raids, not just Soul Rending/NW. One is Felblade/DB, another is Blind Fury/Immolation Aura. You also swap between Fel Barrage and Trail, and Momentum is also alright for dungeons if you really want to play it, as you get more AoE. The problem is that:

  • Demonic Appetite
  • Insatiable Hunger
  • Fel Mastery
  • Cycle of Hatred
  • Dark Slash
  • Nemesis

are completely and utterly dead to the point of being 5-7k dps loss if you take them.

Demonic Appetite is pretty awesome atm (if using Eyes of Rage trait). DA+EoR sims have been fixed (now sims correctly with 1.4 secs instead of 0.7 secs EB cd reduction per fragment).

Also DB+FB build sims with Fel Rush as filler ability which is to be honest not really used in real boss encounters to dps but increases sim dps by ~1.7%.

I preferred legion havoc.

Felblad/DB sims lower single target for me than blind fury/immolation aura, by quite some actually.

It’s ironic we have only 2 spec because it’s “easier” to balance as said the devs.
Turns out it’s quite pigeonholed

Balance was never given as a reason for creating 2 specs. Spec uniqueness was.

Uniqueness indeed, but I remember they also mentioned it would be easier to balance (which makes sense) and make the specs more fun.
