Hello everyone,
I hope you’re all enjoying this anniversary event—Blizzard really outdid themselves with the content and cosmetics in this patch. However, there’s one thing I’d like to address: the Death Knight Tier 2 set.
To give a bit of context, back in 2009, Blizzard released Patch 3.2.2, which introduced the level 80 upscaled version of the classic raid Onyxia’s Lair. This raid dropped Tier 2 helmets for each class. Interestingly, Death Knights, who didn’t exist in vanilla WoW, received their own unique Tier 2 helm designed specifically for them (link).
Now, with the remastered Tier 2 sets in the current patch, my issue is that the “remastered” Death Knight set doesn’t resemble the original Tier 2 helm from the WotLK version of Onyxia’s Lair. While the new set looks great, I believe it doesn’t stay true to the concept of remastering the original Tier 2 sets, as it deviates significantly from the design we had back then.
Don’t get me wrong—the set is visually impressive, and I can see why players appreciate it, especially since it carries a strong resemblance to the Lich King, which evokes nostalgia. But from the standpoint of a true remaster, it feels off.
What can be done? Likely nothing. I doubt Blizzard would make any changes over such a minor detail. And honestly, even if they did, the player base would probably be divided, as many already love the current look.
