Okay, I can’t find it anywhere.
What ilvl is the cutoff between the LFR - Normal - Heroic tier set look. I for example want to get the normal look and maybe the heroic one. I can’t check to see if the item I upgrade will have the look I want while using the catalyst.
Does anyone know?
I haven’t found a list myself either.
Except from Trial and Error I have discovered that a 385 ilvl piece will get to LFR mog, and 415 is where Mythic Mog starts.
I will be upgrading that 385 piece at some point to get the Normal appearance at some point, but I’m focusing my Valor on my progression at the moment.
I assume since a 385 piece will get you LFR, that would mean that Storm Gear will convert to LFR. But I have not tested that, so don’t quote me.
I may be totally wrong on this one, but I think catalyst only provides notmal-tier recolors of the set.

Nope, I have leveled the pants from Normal to Heroic → except I was dumb and I forgot to pay attention. You can even get LFR if you do it at upgrade 1 or 2, but I haven’t tested it.
I know from experience that 385 turns into normal.
Help a poor bloke out, what gear do you mean with upgrade 1 or 2? Im curious because i really want to complete the lfr set
That’s interesting. Because I have changed a 385 cloak, and disappointingly got the LFR piece when I hoped for normal.
So maybe it varies item by item.
When you get a piece from M+ it has a 1/13 under ilvl. That’s the upgrade i was talking about
I’ve not seen any specific chart but was going to base mine off the ranges given on this chart. Might err on the side of caution and keep them to the low end it has three different drop levels.
It does now update the colour/mog with the item level of the armour. For example my helm and chest have now unlocked mythic, shoulders require 10 more rating (2.4K) for the max upgrade level which then gives the mythic transmog 
Weird! In my case it was the boots. Really wanted the lfr boots. Alas, expac is still young
