Tier Tokens on PTR

Did anyone try raiding T4 Content on PTR yet to see if there is still a drop of only 1 Token per 25 man boss?

I know T5 Content drops 1 only, curious to know if T4 got changed or untouched :).

Both T4 and T5 should be dropping 2 on the basis that the patch seems to be taking every change from 2.1 except the unlocking of BT (and the fact that 2.1 came out after 4 months in the original game, which is the same timeline we’re on).

For those that don’t know: in 2.0, 25man bosses only dropped 1 tier token, but this was changed in 2.1 in all cases. And while technically Black Temple came out in 2.1, in practice, almost nobody was even raiding tier 5 content at this time as it was only 4 months after the release of TBC, let alone tier 6. World first Kael’Thas took place during 2.1 and dropped two tokens, for instance.

So while this is arguably a grey area, given the timetable and the rate at which content was consumed in 2007, I would strongly suggest that two tier tokens should be dropping from this point on.

Otherwise, we’ll be in a situation where single tier tokens continue to drop for half the duration of TBC, which is not at all Blizzlike.

If people are playing on the PTR, please report any single drops of tier sets as bugs.

I’d like to call more attention to this issue if we could - if anyone is playing on the PTR, could they confirm that this still hasn’t been fixed? (if fixed is the right word)

There is nothing to “fix”. We don’t need Blizzard to throw extra gear at us and make t6 raids easier than intended. It will be bad enough that we most likely will be clearing t5 content longer than people did back in original TBC.

I don’t agree with this perspective - you’re basically advocating for a player power nerf compared to original TBC. I think the goal of the developers (and expectation of the customers) is that the game should be as close to authentic as possible.

And on top of that, if we did want to nerf relative player power, I would personally buff the bosses instead.

We haven’t seen the Mage, Lock, Hunter shoulder token in 6 weeks. Going for 7 tonight.

I don’t know who this is fun for. 1 in 3 chance for a specific token off a boss per week is laughable.

I would love to hear the logic behind this statement. 25 man raid bosses only dropped 1 tier token until patch 2.1, which was the release of Black Temple.

I explain it in my post - there was almost no raiding going on in tier 5 until 2.1 dropped as the place was riddled with bugs (and players were undergeared). The tier wasn’t cleared until 2.1.

The rest of this patch appears to be based on 2.1, with the exception of the BT unlock. The rest of the 2.1 loot is coming in, plus daily quests, a new arena season, and other content. Therefore, releasing with the two token drops would be consistent with their philosophy.

And finally, chronologically, 2.1 came out approximately 4 months after TBC launched. This patch is looking at coming out at roughly the same interval. That, for me, is the most important element here - if the tokens aren’t changed now, we’ll be stuck with the 2.0 loot strategy for presumably 8 or so months until phase 3 releases, which is not how the original game was meant to be played.

So how is limiting the amount of tier 5 gear we enter t6 raids with a power nerf compared to when “almost no raiding going on”, and the raiding that was going on had only 1 token per boss?

Al’ar is 2.3 or later :man_shrugging:

Again, you are contradicting yourself. You are calling what I ask for a nerf, but you expect and want Blizzard to hand us significantly more loot than they did prior to 2.1.

Because most guilds didn’t enter tier 6 until much later if at all (basically when the attunements were removed) and by that time had raided the tier 5 content with double token drops exclusively.

As a side point, there was a degree of overlap between T5 progression as experienced by most guilds and BT, because the first four bosses in BT were doable by attuned groups. The rest, however, were closed off due to gear checks and Hyjal was completely shut off until T5 was cleared. So we’re already doing T5 progression at a power disadvantage compared to the original. Adding single token drops would make that worse.

Ah, so you want Blizzard to ignore the players the content was designed for.

Just because you were bad at the game, does not mean blizzard should facilitate the game around bad players today. We will enter tier 5 content significantly better geared than most people did back in 2007. We have 2.4 talents and mechanics which also makes the raids significantly easier. There is no need for Blizzard to implement even more hand holding with a 2nd tier token.
