Time gating, lets talk about it

I mean, i understand why they did it, i know looking at this post makes me look like a complete crybaby about how the schedule is set for content release.

But the fact that i understand why they did it this way and then release Early Access at the same time, making people feel even more like they will miss out if they dont buy it is what i dont understand

The best way to strike back is to pause the subscription until the timegate expires.

Compared to shadowlands I dont see any real time gated annoying bs in TWW.

I dont think the one week waiting for the earthen and the last chapters of the campaign is to protect casual players.

And i actually prefer m+ and raids beeing a bit delayed after release, so you dont feel forced to rush and skip through the game just to be ready for rio push and raiding after a couple of days.

I can’t understand some people’s fascination with having to do everything within the 1st week.
Then there are those who want to go from A-Z skipping everything inbetween, then when they get there the forums start to fill with complaints about being bored.

100% sure you still have plenty of quests to do in all zones so go do them.
You did the campaign and leveled to 80 with dungeons and now telling me you have nothing to do?
Go do your quests, do normal dungeons and heroic, do delves or even do bgs if you enjoy that.
They timegate the campaign since idk when.

No, you are not wrong, you made your opinion from your point of view and time you have available.
You are just not seeing broader picture and why Blizzard has to timegate things for a ll players to be on close-enough stage.
Try to put yourself in Blizzard shoes - would you remove timegates?

That one is easy - more money and money is sole reason of their existance as company.

Same! Friend and I are lvl 75! So far xpac seems fine to me :dracthyr_shrug:

Even if they didnt timegate the campaign, you’d be done with it by now and bored anyways. Makes no difference really. Im not a fan of timegating myself, but it also doesnt affect me much since im one of those parents with a job and less time to play.

I bought EA and have something to do everyday. Maybe you need to broaden your horizons, level some alts, do some pvp, smash out some delves, whatever.

You are. It sounds like you just facerolled your way to 80 in anticipation of endgame content, and now, with your TikTok brainrot attention span, this is causing you a colossal YOU problem.

I agree with that, everyone should be running the game at their own pace.
But I think it also warrants a call-out then, that if you decide to consume the content in 2 days, you can’t come to the forums and complain “I HAVE NOTHING TO DO”, because you chose to clear through it in two days.

How do you know the person would be bored after finishing the Main gated questline ?

Where has this nonsense of “PeopLe wIlL get BoRed If TheY FiNish tHe CamPaiGn” come from ?

Wait!

Is this still a think? I first noticed in BfA and then heavily in Shadowlands …and then I stop playing ( I tried DF a bit ) because this 2 expansions were the worst.

We have this idiocracy still in TWW?! Damn.

Ion, when will you quit your job, man? You are the worst director ever in the history of WoW by releasing 3 worst expansions in a ROW : BfA, Shadowlands and Little Dragon.

…oh! You want the 4th also! Ok

OP claims everyone is just flying around doing nothing now because the campaign is timegated. They would still do that if it wasnt timegated cause that content would be consumed in a couple of hours anyways.

I have played substantially more than 1-2 hours per day since EA started, and I don’t feel at all that I am timegated or running out of things to do.

I’m actually glad I can’t do M0 or M+ yet, because it gives me time for gearing up in heroics, working on professions, doing zone quests, collecting treasures.

If there’s nothing to do, just play something else for a while. The M0 grind (now with only daily lockouts) and then the M+ key running will start soon enough!

Dejarous is 100% correct. Time gating is necessary.

Lets assume there was zero time gate like you suggest. And you can do anything you want at your own pace.

Then you would have people playing 40h in full gear doing M+… while others… well… they haven’t finished the campaign yet…

What would that mean ? Well you get kicked out of M+ groups if you dont have full gear. Simple.

So the degree of FOMO would be unbearable. Nobody would be able to “play at their own pace”. Because a bunch of the population will have a much harder time transitioning from “questing” to “M+” at “their own pace”. There would be a wall there. And they know it.

By time gating what you do is equalize the population. So that everyone (or as many people as possible) begins the season on equal standing. Which is good for the overall game, and contrary to what you say… allows for more people to “play at their own pace” with out woring about the consequences.

Its forum platform for this video game world of warcraft that we play, he is posting on its platform which is the only purpose of any forum ever made, that people post on it. Anyways would like to see the timegate related debate kept on the actual matter instead ad hominems as they will just net in closing the thread and that isnt really helpful for the discussion.

Exactly! This has been a frustrating aspect of an otherwise great launch.

I completed the intro and was eager to move my alts to the new city—DENIED. I ended up rushing through the story just to unlock the initial skip for alts. If not for that, I would have enjoyed the story at my own pace.

Then, I tried to include a new earthen alt because it seemed to be unlocked. Again, I rushed through the storylines just to remove another roadblock. And after all that—DENIED, time-gated.

I love this expansion so far, but this forced pacing is leaving a very bitter taste. They’re making the experience worse for no good reason. We need to voice our concerns.

Time gating is necessary, from a business standpoint and for the health of the game.

If people could consume everything within the month people would stop subbing after… and for the playerbase having less people playing would be a big negative with longer queues, guilds struggling to do weekly raids/RBGs, less AH postings, etc.

What is thereto talk? Time gating was always bad
