For those that don’t know, before Warcraft 3, the Orcs were a different bunch.
You remember that one friend who now has two kids and a mortgage, but before that, he had his hair long, he had a collection of arm bands, and if you passed through his neighborhood, you would hear him blasting You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’ ? He was dating that nice brunette who was really cutesy at the beginning, and then she started wearing darker clothing, putting on heavier make-up, and making her hair color darker. Yeah, that guy.
Well, that was the orcs, or should I say the Horde, in Warcraft 1 and 2.
While Go’el’s Horde isn’t less metal, it’s more Guns and Roses than the older Horde, which was more Judas Priest.
Well, it is time to bring those metal heathens back in a non-Garrosh way, but in his daddies Grommash way.
You know their coolness is debatable… They lost to freaking gnomes. And then ended up locked in prison camps with little to no success as far as breaking free goes.
Most of the “heroes” in the game right now are extremely boring cookie cutter characters. There is no son goku, Frieza, Broly, or Vegeta in the game now in the story. We only have a bunch of krillins, Yamchas and our enemy is some newly introduced copy paste character with no real back story (Sarkareth). Compare this to Varian, who jumped off an aircraft to solo a huge raid boss from gul’dan, and then charge at basically the entirety of the legion alone. Compare this to Broxigar, who fought hordes of demons protecting a gateway and ended up being the only survivor. Afterwards he became an old veteran warrior, whose only purpose is to try getting a honorable death in battle. Garrosh, a character with a very long back story and good character building getting corrupted and turning evil by trying to do the right thing in his view for the people and becoming the raid boss at some point. He was just not prepared for his task, that thrall forced upon him, and in the end just acted in the name of 'traditional orcish principles. Thrall should not have killed him. This ended Thralls coolness as a character, because he lost his honor doing so, and he also lost his rationality, because the celestials decided to give garrosh a positive purpose in life, and thrall decided to disobey that, even though, or mabye because garrosh’s wrong path is thrall’s fault. Thrall acted like a child, that decided to destroy something, because he couldn’t cope with his own mistake, and didn’t accept the fate that a third higher entity decided. This also ruined his “wisdom”-archetype. They effectively killed off 2 characters by making thrall cheat in a mak’gora that he initiated. I thought thrall was way cooler before actually looking into the story of what happened. Now, for me, Thrall is just an empty shell that is supposed to represent an archetype gameplay-wise for people, who don’t know the story. The story of orcs is recoverabe, but only with a new generation of orcs, and thralls son should be what thrall was supposed to be without having events that ruin his hero-status of a character. Not saying that characters should not have flaws, but for example thralls flaws are so big that they contradict the archetype he is supposed to represent as an orc full of wisdom as a leader acting in the name of honor.
The gnomes didn’t participate beyond making weapons/copters etc.
Because they didn’t try to escape.
Most of them were basically heavy drug addicts - due to the demon bloods power giving out - with withdrawals, so they just sat there. It’s mentioned in the book ‘‘Lord of the Clans’’ when Thrall speaks to one of the inmates, and the inmate says he could easily kill the guards and escape, but has absolutely no desire to do so.
Orcs tried to take over Gnomeregan. And failed. Terribly.
Yeah seems like they also never had a plan beyond “escape” before Thrall got his visions from “Prophet”. Like sure you can escape but then what? Your chances of winning against alliance are as low as they could get at the time.
