Time to ditch factions

It was aimed at the OP’s opinion or rather statement but if you happen to share it, yeah it was aimed at you too.
And yeah, the writers are struggling because there are no writers left. Since Golden got put at the head of that team the writing has been getting worse and worse. I mean Baine is one of her pet projects which she boldly declared will be used to fight toxic masculinity as if she has an idea what that means given that so far he’s been kissing Anduin’s buttock because that’s what it’s all about Anduin, she’s obsessed with young blonde boys.
That’s why she totally destroyed Saurfang, turned him into some abomination that loves Anduin cause, well, he’s a blonde young fella, who can’t love that. Plus Saurfang was stoic and that’s toxic masculinity.
And what can I even say about Calia? That abomination should be removed from the game and forgotten and an apology issued to every player that witnessed that wreck of a character that has no place in this game much less in the Forsaken faction.

But hey, Metzen’s back. Maybe they’ll let him take the wheel to salvage the failing story and let Golden go back to writing about Jaina having relations with giant reptiles. She seems to be decent at writing a story she’s told, not so much when it comes to creating new stories.

Anyway, lucky for us the writing team is not in charge of the development of the game, their job is to ruin the story Metzen and other actual writers wrote.

I still get goosebumps watching the Sylvanas cinematic yelling For the horde.
You take that away, you take history away…emotions,a big part of the game.
Not seeing this as a good idea.
For the horde🫶!I couldn’t care less about other factions lol.

I think we’re pretty much in agreement on the last few expansions and their issues  . And I share your hope, I’m curious where Metzen will take us. It does seem cooperation will be a theme for a while longer. If they decide to pour some oil on this very low fire, I hope for once the Alliance will be the instigator instead of the Horde.

Honestly, while I’m against removing factions, a faction conflict is the last thing I want because I have zero faith in their current writing team. BFA was a repetition of MoP down to the end where it turns out Sylvanas wasn’t Sylvanas unlike Garrosh who totally was Garrosh. So yeah, not looking forward to MoP 3.

Evidently, you didn’t watch Blizzcon.

Chris Metzen: Can I hear the Horde scream?!

The Crowd: AHHHHHHH

Chris Metzen: Alliance, your turn to scream.

The Crowd: AHHHHHHH

I think that is pretty much the reason why a portion of the playerbase doesn’t experience it as serving a function anymore, but mostly as a unnecessary nuisance practically. There’s a feeling attached to the two factions, a sense of nostalgia, of it somehow giving races within these alliances a certain meaning and purpose, and yet the storytelling has actively undermined that, and the best solution the writers can come up every time seems to be to let us team up against Team Cosmic Evil to carry us past the embarrassment. It doesn’t live up to its initial flavour.

I’m not sure what it would take to restore that, especially because as Kotara pointed out certain races get caught in the crossfire while they really don’t belong in this or that conflict. And ambivalence or downright judgement can’t be acted upon unless it’s an individual character going against the current.

ironforge and orgrimmar one of the best cityes ever made, change my mind :coffee:

the war never ends, personally i love it. its the setting that got us into the game :dracthyr_nod: :dracthyr_nod: :dracthyr_comfy_sip:

Bad writing does not justify the removal of the conflict between the factions. Otherwise we might as well forego having a story at all. And besides we are all hoping the writing might improve. That maybe Microsoft does something about that team.

I agree. The story of old expansions is really epic, and when I read about the new story I just wanna fall asleep out of boredom, since they lack any edge or character

No thanks keep the boring crap Alliance out of the Horde.

Well in our Horde guild I see plenty of players choosing to go Alliance because they can, and still keep their raid spots.

I vote agaisnt this…

this is a prejudice.

alas i wish they remove shadowmeld or all racials while at it if they feeling bold, also not directly linked to factions but its time to ditch racials

That would be boring. I like faction honor fantasy.

Where, how, danuser is lead writer, golden only writes dialogue and quite good at it.
Before him was Afrasiabi who is responsible for BFA, Shadowlands, sylvanas grey morality and nippler, and also was one of the milkhunters in blizzard studios.
This sentiment reminds me of something, half of the CIS community were busy crapping on golden for BFA story while she wasn’t directing BFA plot at all.

Bad writing is keeping conflict between factions while resolving it again and again.
It’s not Warhammer, it’s not grimdark with eternal war, starting alliance vs horde war for 10000th time will be a self parody.
Unless they’ll properly set up it, and I mean 4 or so expansion set up with coherent story and good story reason for it

I would want to see independent Undead faction, Elven Confederation, Alliance can be of human and dwarf kingdoms, original Horde of orcs-tauren-trolls…

We actually need MORE factions like Scourge etc!
Always divided always at WAR.

I would unite the Horde and Alliance but I would also create two new more factions: the Void and the Light, where you can pledge alliance to one of them :stuck_out_tongue::stuck_out_tongue: I want to support the Void.
PvP can stay with the army of the Light against the Void.
Dunno I think it might be cool and a new fresh take on the game.

No, it’s not Warhammer, it’s Warcraft a game that has been about war between two factions. And the setup is already made. It has been for over 2 decades. So I don’t know what you people are on about, but then again you fellas who push for the Peacecraft mode, don’t always make any sense at all. The conflict isn’t bad writing, it’s a legacy of Warcraft, the story concerning the conflict might be bad, but not the conflict itself.

warcraft 3, game that is basically was set up for all that wow will be after, has alliance and horde accepting each other in the end, and fought scourge and legion back to back, so your take is wrong, warcraft from the start was a commentary on cycles of hatred being bad.
You can’t repeat same story again and again, sooner or later it becomes parody.

I dunno, play the game, or atleast check story on wiki, and realise how wrong you are and how bad this take is.
