Time to Merge Cataclysm Classic Servers – Populations Are Shrinking Fast

Hi Blizzard team,

I’d like to raise a concern that’s becoming increasingly obvious on many Cataclysm Classic realms – active player populations are dropping rapidly. Based on in-game activity, guild recruitment difficulties, and third-party tracking sites, it feels like we’re down to roughly 50% of the players compared to launch of Cataclysm.

This decline is affecting the entire server ecosystem:

  • It’s getting harder to find players for dungeons, raids, or PvP
  • Guild recruitment has become extremely difficult
  • Auction house and economy are slowing down significantly

Would Blizzard consider merging some of the lower-population realms? Or perhaps implementing cross-realm systems like in retail WoW – especially for dungeons, battlegrounds, and guilds?

Even cross-faction features (which exist in retail now) might be worth exploring to preserve the social and group experience.

Many of us love the Cataclysm era and want to keep playing – but the community needs help to survive and thrive.

Thanks for your time and all your hard work.

We should merge all the servers onto 1 server now that MoP is right around the corner.
Leveling always feels better when there’s 39810 players competing over 20 spawns.

I should add that pvp on horde side is basically unplayable. Cross faction bgs would resolve the issue.

Server merge is a must since Cata dropped mid term. Honestly, some servers are practically unviable for pug content and rated pvp

I’ve got literally forced to create a new character on Golemagg beucase the Spanish server Mandokir is literally dead with less than 500 players between both factions.

You can’t imagine how it feels to start from scratch with 0 currency because they now banned the gold trade between realms.

There is a need for a merge really. For months now on Pyrewood Village it has been completely pointless to expect to see a raid in LFG. Whether it is world or cities what you see is the same: no other players. Occasionally someone around who levels an alt just to do something. If this is not solved by merging PvE and PvP servers into one Mist of Pandaria will already start off very badly.

You’re all right — my brother plays on Pyrewood Village and even though it’s a one-sided server, it’s becoming nearly unplayable. Is there any way to bring this issue to the attention of the responsible Blizzard staff? Or do you know of any thread or information that would suggest whether Blizzard is planning to address this problem?

The only official way to send feedback is through the forum but from the experience I’ve had even on Wrath I’m not hopeful. The only hope is LFR so we can at least play the tiers.

You they had promised to merge servers for cata launch… and that still didn’t happen. So what are you expecting exactly?

I’d merge Firemaw and Gehennas, yes, I want to see the world burn, it would be funny how people complain about PvP on a PvP server.

A lot of the realms are still in a very healthy state and not everyone wants crowded realms so I disagree.

I really don’t understand why people who want mega realms aren’t already on Firemaw or Gehennas, they exist already and every other realm doesn’t have to merge to become exactly like them.

playing on firemaw does not fee like a “mega realm” lately.

It’s the end of an unpopular tier in an unpopular expansion. There’s no reason to think the population won’t grow naturally for MoP.

Especially since SoD has ended and players are being given free MoP boosts.

I’m already on them, but I hate one sided PvP realms.

Same with Sulfuron, literally unplayable, it’s currently impossible to do any kind of recruitment. Free transfers would be good, but a mega-server with cross-server groups and guilds would be even better since transfers would bring character name issues.
How can I loose my name to a guy who havnt even played since six years ago?

As a SoD player who is about to join guildies on Gehennas/Golemagg horde, the only reason I’m not objecting to the PvP server is that they’re basically single faction servers so I absolutely would be one to object to this (unless we got a free server migration to PvE in which case I absolutely agree, go for it, 1 singular pvp server seems like the obvious fix to the mono faction server issue.)

Cross-Realm Queueing : Players in under populated areas of the world such as low level zones will be grouped together within a select pool of realms. The natural flow of questing will be preserved but the zones will end up less sparse. For highly-populated areas like major cities, this won’t be in effect.

That’s cool, will this be Cross-Realm grouping too? For questing and dungeons/raids with friends on different servers?

That is from 2012 and I’m pretty sure that will not come on the Classic version
