So I decided to do ICC on my DK, cuz why not (first run ever and got the mount like wtf), and I noticed something. Regardless how Bolvar’s crucified body hasn’t been censored (thank God), Tirion says this before he shatters the ice cube:
“Light, grant me one final blessing!”
Did he die at the Broken Shore because the Light “fulfilled” his last wish? If he could go against LK and shatter Frostmourne, he surely should’ve bubble+HS out of that fel pot, no?
I wouldn’t interpret “grant me one final blessing” as literally the final blessing because if that really was the case, Tirion would have stepped down from his position and retreated after WotLK due to no longer being a functional Paladin of the Argent Crusade.
Also, he was frozen in ice if not particularly stunned in ICC, thus he had time to negotiate with the Light. As opposed to the event on the Broken Shore where the writers decided to kill him off.
I think at that moment at ICC he just believed he will die. Dont think it meant more than that.
He didnt die at the Broken Shore scenario to Krosus though but was found later on in the Paladin Campaign during the Aquisition of the Retribution Artifact and died after being tortured there.
Him dying probably was more of a gameplay decision since he was the wielder of the Ashbringer which Retribution Paladins used as Artifact and to give the Player kind of more relevance I guess, since he became the Highlord afterwards.
