Well, I just opened my weekly chest of disappointment; lo-and-behold I got nothing out of it besides my last 1k of Titan Residuum that I needed to buy a mythic azerite piece. Went to the vendor, (that Blizzard so kindly blessed us with because we asked for it :’) ) bought my piece and clenched my buttcheeks for the SS trait.
Suffice to say, I didn’t get it either so that piece of gear that I grinded two and a half weeks for is just a useless bit of disenchantment garbage because my damage comes from an arbitrary system that is designed around rng in a game that is already littered with rng.
Am I the only one who is this unlucky with not getting any character progression done even though I’m tidily doing my weekly chests and raid clears? I’ve yet to receive any of the notorious corruption effects everyone’s talking about and my damage really shows how irrelevant my knowledge and experience on the class and spec is when some bloke with twilight devestation and infinite stars can just show up, missing half his traits and talents and just outdps me by 15k.
If you don’t want to play the lottery then save up and buy the specific piece you need. Yes it takes alot longer but you get the specific one you want instead of ‘wasting’ 2x the amount with random rolls.
I have great traits at the moment and will not change my az gear until i either get what i want from the raid or i can buy a specific to keep the traits i have.
I love the system tbh. Last week, I had enough residuum to buy 1mythic piece or 4/5hc level pieces. I thought to myself that I should go for the hc level pieces since they’re an upgrade anyway and I don’t really need mythic level azerite right now and don’t wanna get a worthless mythic piece.
Bought a shoulders token, horrible traits. Bought another, same item. Bought another, horrible traits. Bought a 4th pair of shoulders, same as my 3rd pair. I gave up.
Exactly what im doing to be honest. Although, like the scrub i am, im running a WQ helm, a 450 and 465 residium shoulders/chest at the moment with 3x DOD and 1 X primal instinct (so essentially BIS)
Its one of those for me at the moment if my new gear doesn’t have the dance of death trait its a massive downgrade.
I got another belt, like last week, without a damage corruption again. Third chest in a row without a damage corruption, and not even useful for any slot if I cleansed the corruption. PvP chest contained a useless trinket. My residuum piece was decent, though, for all specs, and actually good for feral. So I guess that is at least something.
I’ll say, though, that the lottery systems in the game wear me down. I don’t play a game to get irritated or upset on a regular basis. I find it unacceptable to say that they realize these layers of RNG are not fun, but won’t address it before Shadowlands. Always the same song.
Yes, there is a “rush” if you play with people who do substantially more damage than you due to lucking out on corruptions and azerite pieces. Also, if the OP is a moonkin, the BIS traits are the only viable traits if they want to do any meaningful damage as a moonkin. This is one of the reasons why I don’t play moonkin anymore this tier. The dependency on Streaking Stars is absurd.
I mean, I get the frustration, I was so tilted last week when I was in front of the vendor with 4 useless shoulder pieces and no more residuum.
My spec requires 3x Baleful Invocation and 3x Explosive Potential for it to even compete with the other warlock specs. I don’t want to gamble anymore, I’m gonna wait it out.
As for the rush, I mean ye it’s super annoying when somebody has had luck with corruption or w/e and they’re doing more damage than you because of procs. It’s unfair, frustrating and makes you lose motivation. But that’s another issue.
If possible, try to fill the missing slots with raid pieces. Waiting for 3x specific items is a lot of waiting. Happened to me two patches ago. I had the correct 3 traits for a whole month before nazjatar/mechagon arrived.
You can save up for a specific piece so you don’t have to ‘play the lottery’.
You can also go into the raid where Streaking Stars is on every single piece you drop.
You can also get Azerite pieces from Visions and Assault boxes and those also have a higher chance to have Streaking, if not a guarantee.
My druid has 3x Streaking and one Arcanic Pulsar without buying a single Residuum piece.
Contrary to previous patches, ‘playing the lottery’ is highly inefficient in 8.3 and it’s kinda on you if you decide to do it. Personally, I aim to get random pieces only for off-spec use where I don’t care that much about BiS traits. If you ‘main’ dps, for many specs the chance you get a combination of traits that’s better than anything you drop in the raid is low enough that it’s not really worth it. Those extra 15 item levels won’t do you any good if your build stops working.
My DK goes to buy the mythic level item for 4k something, gets one of the worst pieces imaginable. In grand disappointment I toss the 900 for the lower level item - get best item.
Me - not amused and amused same time.
My raiding character did not even bother to buy lottery item and waits probably for the fixed item.
