To hunter or not to hunter, that is the question!

Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them.

Anywho, I’m creating a hunter and it’s still in the crappy shadowlands leveling area until it goes to Stormwind. But I’m not hating it or going zomg dis iz so gud! (leveled a hunter many many moons ago, so things have of course changed and making a new hunter on a different server and of course on ze Alliance)

Anyone who mains a hunter or those who have one as an alt. What are you thoughts & opinions of them. Of course we all know the memes and such of hunter players and how bad they are. However, jokes aside… are they decent in PvP as well?

I’ve seen the dps meters for raids and keys up to 25s and they’re fine, but there isn’t much they bring to the table in terms of utility. So do you think it’s worth the time investment, especially considering Dark Ranger sounds fun and no idea how that may turn out.

So yeah, thoughts & opinions on ze Huntars!

A class that can do both melee and ranged dps, tame pets, move around while doing ranged dps. I mean that’s pretty cool and fun, whatever anyone else tells you. Besides, proving stereotypes wrong is always fun.

Hunters are chill to play. Great for solo content, easy for group content with a plethora of utility. No clue about PvP.

Though why you chose to level in SL of all places… :joy: maybe try somewhere else.

Nah I mean the level 1 to 10 crap, which is a Shadowlands feature. When TWW comes out, that will be switching over to a Dragonflight version.

I leveled one recently, and it was very relaxed. Being able to do everything (as BM) while moving is lovely and was a nice change of pace. Having pets is neat, makes solo playing a little less lonely feeling, but they also have some downsides (you need to learn where you have to dismiss them and where they’ll jump down with you so you don’t pull extra groups in some dungeons).

For a main character I prefer to be able to fill more than one role, but then again, I haven’t healed much on this evoker. For keys, especially higher ones, hunters aren’t all that sought after (like most non-meta dps specs), but they bring BL/heroism. Not much group utility, no short interrupt, no AoE stuns/interrupts/silences, though, and they can’t help with some of the affixes, which are the downsides.

But I wouldn’t let that stop me. You pay for playing this game (both with money and time), so play something you enjoy. It is a game, nothing we do here is really permanent or unchangeable. It’s why I mostly play Devastation Evoker and not Augmentation Evoker.

Oh you mean the starter island. Yeah just keep swimmin’

Would say hunter have a fair bit of utility, on top of my head

Hero, Binding shot(stun),Aoe slow, single target slow, 30 sec cc, pet-stun, can reveal stealth-ed mobs & Hunters mark (raid-buff)

Hunters are absolutely fine until 25 as you said it but don’t expect an invite over Fmage or Aug after that. If you’re not pushing beyond that then it really doesn’t matter. They are an incredible class otherwise.

this is not a hunter problem, you could say the same about warrior, DKs, Windwalker monks basically any other non meta class

hunter is unique, and fun.
chill to play
no stress and its fun to find rare pets in the world. ive been hunting a few for the past few years still waiting on spawns

I’m more of melee guy but I like the melee ranger concept.

However I just don’t like the skills aesthetics of survival, it’s all over the place, green colors, red, yellow… yuck.
The rotation too is not my cup of tea. But otherwise if you’re looking for a pure range experience, they’re a solid choice.

As per title: No, that is definitely NOT the question. Hunter is life. Hunter is love.

I know every weapon is a Hunter weapon but they can’t use Slings as there are none…

I have fun playing BM. It feels like playing melee (in that you can run round constantly), but you get to play from range. Plus you get to tame cool pets. Also (and I think this is very much underrated), in mythic plus, you can use feign death to avoid certain targeted mechanics altogether. I’ve been playing ret pala in keys lately, and although my pala has tons of resources to survive targeted mechanics, I really miss being able to drop them altogether and just get back to dpsing.

a quick tip for new hunters

  • take the parachute enchant for cloak, make a macro with Disengage, use both mid air
  • glider works too with feign death and turtle
  • you can use glider and kill people flying , as MM
  • Feign death in to Camo macro is very useful too, if you know how to use it, it works like a vanish

hella fun in open world content

That’s pretty interesting.

Finally able to get back to leveling this hunter, which has been sitting at the NPC outside of Stormwind, since I got out of the leveling island.

So will burn through some content. Will probably do the BFA content, never did it from the Alliance side before xD

Don’t forget to check Petopia if you want pet inspiration  Pet hunting is chill detour enjoyment content!

yeah that is something I’ve been looking at.

Also need to get the Hunter doing the Shadowlands content to get the ability to tame undead creatures, for those undead raptors for PvP.

I’m just so bummed I need to grind a LOT of rep if I want to tame dragons.
