You can purchase a WoW Token from the Shop for real money and sell it on the Auction House for gold, or you can purchase a Token from the Auction House and redeem it for 30-days of Game Time or $15 of Battle.net Balance (Balance conversion only possible in Modern WoW).

If you buy a token you cannot redeem it for gametime, you can only sell it on the AH.
