First of all let me list my specs -
7800x3d
4090
64GB RAM @ 6000mhz
Game on SSD.
I am having a very strange issue of where if i stand at the entrance to any prison in Tol barad my GPU fans will skyrocket (if stood there long enough). And my FPS will be all over the place… it seems to only be in THAT area stood in the entrance to the prison at the top of the steps… Very strange indeed. Is anyone else encountering the same sort of thing?
I don’t know, there’s many of such areas where your GPU gets maxxed out for no reason.
I can literally max out my 4090 in the dream zone, on the left edge of the map at the waterfall.
Turn compute effects up and your FPS get destroyed.
Let’s be real here though, the WoW engine is not very efficient at some shader effects
Maybe Blizzard needs to hire some engineers from id-tech.
Honestly, I had to turn my compute effects to low and get rid of RTX because the game is just NOT working well at all.
I have a fairly strong machine, but after certain patches in Dragonflight, the performance got a lot worse.
Some old Vanilla zones will have the game stutter; but in Emerald Dream I have insane FPS drop; it doesn’t go above 30 fps even with compute and RTX off.
That said, my specs are:
CPU: 11th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i5-11400F @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz
RAM: 32GB
Graphics Card: GeForce RTX 3060
SSD
Funny thing is, when I optimize WoW in GeForce experience, it enables compute to max and RTX too. But when I do it, performance just gets a ton worse. I’ve no idea what’s wrong with WoW.
In Valdrakken it stutters and caps around 45-55fps
DF zones don’t go above 70 fps
Older zones go above 70 fps but stutter in some places where FPS suddenly drops.
Guild Wars 2 performs much better for me.
Admittedly, my fps dropped more when I got a new monitor.
I’m playing with 3440x1440 resolution now.
I had to lower some settings in WoW to actually have decent FPS and still have the game look good.
Haven’t tried the game without addons yet though, but I’m not using many at all.
How do I know if my CPU is overheating/working on max clocks?
I just know my gcard loves to speed up its fans when I play WoW (but it’s also summer time so I’m generally avoiding gaming when it gets really hot irl).
Ever since certain patches in Dragonflight, the performance drastically dropped in WoW for me. Strangely other games are running really fine compared to WoW.
Appreciate what you said here, btw. Maybe performance can be upped a bit, just never tried messing with before!
Makes sense, your GPU will bottleneck at that resolution.
You can use a monitoring tool like HWMonitor or HWInfo.
It will show the min/avg/max values for every component.
Also clock speeds etc.
To check your RAM speeds, use CPU-Z and go to the Memory tab.
Look at DRAM Frequency.
If your RAM is 3200Mhz for example it should read 1600Mhz in the tool.
Games like what for example?
I’d say settings to 5 should be fine and then tweak to your liking.
RT shadows is a no go, i have them off on my 4090
Draw distance and details are hard on the CPU btw.
