A fair proportion of velf exist for the same reason a vast majority of belf exist. Human enough to be pretty and relatable and magical enough to be able to pull off fantastic feats thus avoiding the “limitations” of plain human RP. The individual nuances of each elf flavour are ignored (like void, etc.) In these cases, hence why you have the velf, nelf and belf with human esque names and backgrounds.

It’s why elves are popular in every fantasy game.

i feel that. i’ve got like a solid 3-4 characters in mind as velfs, but no motivation to level or give money to hacktivision.

While I’d imagine most people who play racist characters are doing it as a part of their character, you do tend to see quite a fair number of people who are blatantly doing it just for the sake of being racist. To be fair I haven’t seen this much with Scarlets (but then I haven’t encountered many), but I did see a guild on the AA that was literally just the Wehrmacht and was going on about racial supremacy etc.

Where I see the difference in whether or not a character is being played as a wicked flawed character rather than one that people are using as an excuse is in how they’re portrayed. If that racism is portrayed as a negative character trait, is used for creating a proper story or is just logical for the setting (I’m mostly talking about humans that hate other Alliance races for literally no reason) then it can enhance things, but too often around here you see the old “haha i hate refugees” thing being played with such absurd amounts of vitriol that it’s hard not to draw conclusions. It doesn’t mean they’re 100% guaranteed to be horrible racists, but it’s enough to make me raise an eyebrow.

That and the fact that many people I’ve met who play such characters tend to quite plainly state their views OOC at some point as well.

Not that it’s a good indicator of general RP stances, but trade chat conversations reflect the fact these views are in the populace and nobody seems to have a problem with joking about such topics for the sake of gathering meme likes.

What are you talking about? No they aren’t. And no Lore? No lore? As well as the Void stuff, all Blood Elf lore is their Lore, which means all the High Elf lore is their lore, basically anything after Dath’remar Sunstrider’s exile to Eastern Kingdoms and the founding of Quel’thalas is ‘their’ lore.

You know the number of Blood Elves will have come down, as we got rid of those who just wanted the model and are now on Team Blue, right? You know the number of Forsaken characters and Guilds has risen since Sylvanas became Warchief, and that the Orcs have received a massive shot in the arm of numbers with the Mag’har, something that will soon effect the Trolls as well?

I think you’re vastly overestimating how many Blood Elf characters there still are, now that some people were given the opportunity to ‘jump ship’ to the Alliance.
