Tools of the Trade: Mallet of Thunderous Skins

I’m sad to say this after just completing the questchain on my hunter but… It wasn’t worth it.

This item is a ‘personal drum bloodlust’ on a 10-minute cooldown timer with the same lockout as normal bloodlust effects.
A third of the classes who viably use Leatherworking cannot use that function at all, since they have their own, better bloodlust effect (30% haste compared to the 25% this item gives) at a cooldown lower than its combined lockout. (6 minutes for shaman and ferocity hunter pets)
Also, the item only works on the user, so groups will ofcourse prefer drums to be used, saving no materials in those situations for the classes without an equivilent effect.
Edit: After comments from other posters, I tested and found out it cannot even be used in raids or instances to begin with.

The buffs can only be obtained at various locations, one per zone in Kul Tiras and Zandalar for which only half are in convenient spots, (for Alliance, can’t say much for Hordeside) while the other half are in out-of-the-way spots.
The buffs (400 agility, 450 stamina & 500 armour, or 5% runspeed while moving stacking up to 10 times and dropping if you stand still) themselves last 30 minutes and you can only have one up at a time. They are applied at random with no cooldown so it will likely take multiple clicks on a drum to get whichever you wish.
These buffs disappear when you enter an instance, raid, island expedition or battleground but will stay from zone to zone in the open world.

There is no mount. This was what was shown at Blizzcon and it was the one reason I went “If the model is nice or it has some special feature like increased speed or instant summoning, I’ll probably get some use out of it at least during this expansion, I suppose.”

All in all, I fear I’ll forget it exists soon. A dread shame, really. At least the materials aren’t worth any significant money, so my losses are limited.

I am 100% with you my friend, i know how bitter disappointment it is, i was waiting eager to get mount because i knew before that mallet will be trash for us. Buffs while open world only shall last 12hrs or it is pointless because when you reach quest destination you already lost few minutes of it, 30minutes in game feels like a blink of an eye, nobody will bother to get back and back there for those buffs even if they are nice. I wanted mount the most because i became mount collector recently, there is no information why mount is not in-game or anything. Blizzard made some steel barrier between players and Dev team so our feedback and their information arent delievered properly i suppose. I’m getting tired of updates which are causing game rating to downfall.

Whoa, whoa, whoa as a mage who’s best leggo in legion gave us a 5min timewarp cd this got my attention! But I think your mistaken, pretty sure every class suffers from the same 10min sated/temporal displacement debuff.

As for the item none have any end game uses, probably should have been made clear ahead of time, before I spent 15k on items to scrap for a spanner that is useless to me unless I pull half the map!

I was speaking of the cooldown on the actual ability, which is 10 mins on the item, 6 mins on the spells. Not the debuff, which is a whole different thing and yes, is a 10-minute lockout for all. This item -could- be very useful to a mage twink or Timewalking optimiser at best, if it weren’t for the fact that it is locked behind a max-lvl LW chain and requires the user to keep LW as a profession.

I also did it and it’s a complete waste of time. I can’t even BL in instances. As a MM hunter I was hoping I could bring BL without having to summon a pet but no such luck. It’s a complete waste of time and bag space.

Well at least you get that blessing of speed. The engineering one is either a dog attack, a bomb attack or a threat generator, again in none instanced places. Would have been better to keep it simple and say given you a skinning knife that works from 12yrds or skins the target and all other dead skinnable creatures in 12yrds.
