i mean, you must be rly bad if you can’t make humans interesting
Humans in itself aint interesting, since we’re humans irl.
Why would you want to be a human in a fantasy setting when you can be anything else?
you’re a short human with a nerdy gig to it
he’s a green short human with a scammer mechanic gig
you can do all of this as a human
Still lame to be human in a fantasy setting.
And instead of choosing something with a different culture / something that is not what you are IRL you just thought “eh, whatever.”?
Why wouldn’t you want to be something culturally and race wise different than what you are IRL?
well known real-world city, Stormwind
since when i’m from azeroth irl??
Okay. I stand corrected. Thanks for proving me right.
Very lame to RP another race as just a purple, green or nerdy human. I dare say those are usually bad characters.
It’s funny how you’re trying to push your race as something more interesting than a simple, old good human or an orc while your race has had even less effort put into it.
I realise, but i’m pretty certain that people who argue that humans are boring just play other races as if they played a human + adjective, and it’s mostly correct because they all were made by us, humans. It’s really not that hard to realise it… It’s not even wrong. There isn’t much specific stuff said usually.
Also, human is just as much interesting as you can make it and it applies for most races. If you can’t see a human becoming a fantastic character, you must really lack imagination.
Void Elves are the most interesting race in WoW, so let’s just leave it at that.
Okay.
Must have missed the memo where I did that.
Though your replies are giving me a clear picture why you roleplay a human. Have fun though.
Yeah, I’m imaginative enough to be able to turn something basic into something fun. Thanks
And look, I’m a warrior too if it irks you.
if you’re gonna make digs at people at least be hard with it c’mon c’mon c’mon c’mon
tee bee entirely H my main gripe with humans in fantasy settings is how they’re always written as “Other races do everything better than them but somehow they persevere anyway!” (divine intervention optional), writing around them is just really lazy.
Also it’s a ‘default’ race that people with low levels of creativity are keen to gravitate to, causing there to be a disproportionate amount of -tier human RP.
Humans can be written in an interesting way, but fantasy settings just consistently make them look super out of place.
It’s actually the What Does the Fox Say fox noises.
That’s a… Thinking I can agree with. Sure, people go with trophes a lot. But you also have to point out that simple ideas are usually one of the best, for me a footman can be much more interesting than a hero. Bit of effort and personality.
I’m still chewing through dissapointment I felt when they gave us voidies instead of high elves.
I am glad you have found your crown again.
Wish they were. Blizzard could have done so many things with the void elf introduction but instead it was just thrown in without any reason or explanation at all. I often wonder how Blizzard came up with the idea.
Person A: “Hey guys, people ask for sub races since forever… Any ideas?”
Person B: “Naga, dark iron dwarves, broken draenei and high elves are just a few that the people ask since long for.”
Person A: “Let’s give them draenei with golden eyes, void infused sin’dorei without any lore what so ever and dark iron dwarves!”
Person B: “Sounds good but void infused sin’dorei? Why not give people high elves instead…?”
Person A: “Because I say so and it would be too lazy!”
Person B: “…”
Person A: “Now about those high mountain tauren… How about less customizations than the original tauren with just different antlers, huh? Huh?!”
I imagine it went down like this every time I think about it.
There’s nothing wrong with roleplaying a human in WoW - probably the most diverse/varied race in that you can pick them up and RP in pretty much any role you want.
Humans in wow =/= humans in the real world either, but I can get where people are coming from in seeing them as a “safe” option but safe isn’t always bad. My problem is more in line with Tehya in that other races seem to specialise heavily in something but along comes a human character who does it better/wiser/greater (the whole human potential™ meme) - Blizzard have a lot to answer for in this department.
I’d say it takes a very broad amount of generalization to put it like that but even so almost all of the in game races have a culture or influences from the real world not just ‘humans.’ Most of the troll roleplayers I knew back in the day were people that were obsessed with voodoo. I’ve known quite a few people from the african continent and the carribean that preferred trolls simply because of that familiarity to their cultural background, they were able to develop the character on a deeper level because they were connected to it on a more personal level. Personally I feel like basic characters are only boring to boring people because they aren’t creative enough to make them interesting. I shouldn’t need to be an outlandish race for my character to be appealing or interesting enough to interact with. Some of the most interesting personalities back in the day were in the Stormwind City Watch.
What it comes down to is what themes someone appreciates and what lore they appreciate surely? Not about scoring brownie points by trying to appear to be as creative and different as possible for the sake it? People I see calling humans boring I’ve found typically haven’t played the RTS games or haven’t bothered to actually read their lore, or even so haven’t spent much time in tabletop. If we wanted to be pedantic most of the races in game are just different variants of humans.
