I just lvled a mage to 60 and jumped into Torghast, I started with layer 5 because I have almost no gear, ilvl 160ish, and as fire spec, and tbh, it didnt really felt that good, but maybe i just had bad powers, what I wanne know, is fire the go to spec for Torghast or do any of the other specs work better in Torghast?
Arcane is best in my experience.
With Frost and Fire most damage amps are just general increases with a relatively minor effect on your overall damage. Even when there are huge buffs to specific abilities like through Ashen Phylactery and Runecloth Wrappings, the initial damage of Fireball and Frostbolt is so poor that the increase isn’t all that noticable.
Arcane on the other hand gets to stack up ridiculous combos of % increases on Arcane Blast to basically 2-shot bosses, since AB actually does decent damage unbuffed.
Combining stuff like Ashen Phylactery and Runecloth Wrappings, alongside Rune of Power and Overpowered mean you can hit for millions of damage from invisibility, effectively deleting even the most difficult of bosses.
Ah amazing, that’s something I was missing from fire, I guess I’ll be doing Torghast as Arcane then hehe, thanks!
I cleared twisting corridor as frost. Frost get some really gimmick powers (like frost nova doesnt break on damage) all of my builds that i did go for as frost involves snaring/cc:ing mobs that they dont hit you. I enjoy playing as frost in Tgast
Frost is good for not dying in the old school way, just kite everything to death.
Arcane is good for skipping the kiting part and stacking damage buffs like @Icefall laid out, it is really common to cheese bosses in 1-2 hits, and actually kiting in Torghast isn’t that bad between Slipstream and Chrono Shift.
Fire is generally the worst performing one, like a bad middle ground between arcane and frost. Not enough kiting power to be comfortable, not enough (consistent) damage to not care about kiting. Though you can have a lot of fun with the Fireblast power that launches mobs into the air
Just did layer 5 in the Twisting Corridors, effectively vaporized the final boss in spite of his 4.8 million HP.
Until you get unlucky with the top floors being Mort’regar. The mobs constantly blinking to you and hitting for nearly all your health.
Yeah that is big issue. had those kind of mobs in twisting corridor :s without any hp/shield upgrades you get 1shotted
Arcane mage and Thorgast goes hand in hand, hands down.
AS arcane if you go for the Ashen Phalactories buff you get a 100% buff to your arcane blast + if you go for tw upgrades and the 30% attack bonus from Frost and fireblast (they stack) you can do ridiculous dps as arcane given the 30 + 80% runes you put down.
Every mob in thorgast dies on one or two hits from arcane blast (unbuffed) Whilst bosses with a full setup dies in 1 hit. I have done Twisting Corridors L8 where i dealt 61 million damage to the last boss who at the time had a 40% damage resistance.
He was pretty dead and i do have video’s of me doing 19 million damage at floor 6 in normal runs, 1 hit.
So yeah, Arcane is fun. For a while atleast untill you can 1 shot everything that looks at you.
Indeed.
And then, after having fun for 2 hours one shooting everything you go back in doing mediocre damage
All 3 specs work just fine since the nerfs, just that frost is king in kites, arcane apparently gets neat anima upgrades and fire nukes the crap out of everything during combust per usual.
Though I noticed fire relies a little more heavy on certain powers to shine. I had a lot more fun with it on My TC grind then the ash grind ones purely due having me re floors to pick up anima from. (You’ll need them though).
FYI, a -lot- of anima drops can be picked up still as fire, the cdr for nova+unbreakable for example.
My honest advice is to get a little bit more gear though if you still have trouble after this thread chuck full of advice.
Go with a group man, u will get invites! I did biyh layer 6 , could que for 8 but my ilv would get me rejected. For 6 its fine, u loose some ash, but u can make a 210 leggo tommorow if u do them today and tommorow.
Mage is searched for timewarp every floor!
Gluck!
Mages suffer a lot soloing torghast with almost no selfheals available. If you want to make your job easy, best get the Grisly Icicle lego from a little bit of pvp, go frost, swapping back to main lego when getting the anima power of the same name (Glacial Fragments since this content is mainly AoE) until the final boss.
Then swap to arcane and blow up the boss with runecloth wrappings and phylactery-buffed Arcane blast. My highest so far was some 500k crit on a 1.2M Observer.
Completing Torghast at layer 8 is a walk in the park actually. Maybe not for fire mages though as they dont have slow effects like frost nor they have broken ST damage like arcane.
Anyway. Just spec into frost or arcane and blow up everything.
Fire and Arcane work very well for Torghast.
Fire you want smarter mirror image, nothing like deleting everything with an army of mirrors casting greater pyro or getting blink down to zero cooldown and spamming an army of mirror images.
The juggling powerup also lets you wreck many mobs and bosses.
Arcane you want all the int / damage buffing options and arcane wrappings x 3, nothing like 3 shotting rares or end level boss with openers from invis.
Triune ward is a great legendary for doing torghast if you dont get it as a power up.
Group up. Having to cc to get through is so damn slow, you’ll get into groups for timewarp. Get a tank and then you dont have to worry about def powers. Mages powers are limited compared to other classes but have some nice changes coming next week.
