Torghast question

hey guys i’ve returned to the game after some time and i’m still trying to grasp the mechanics of the new expansion. in particular i have a question regarding torghast. was that thing made just to give me testicular cancer? pls reply asap

It’s loads of fun! Especially now they’ve added a timer and score to it…

Note the excessively heavy use of sarcasm.

Fun and timer dont go well together.

Timer is … meh, imo it doesn’t suit RPGs. But the biggest problem in Torghast is that some classes don’t work well with empowerment buff, on my prot paladin it changes nothing but some casters can melt bosses with it. And big chunk of points comes from usage of buff so yeah … I lost in Torghast lottery and that may burn me out in next couple weeks.

I went in for the first time yesterday since the changes and had no idea what was going on :joy: scored 100 and got two gems :man_shrugging:

It also appears you can’t clear upper reaches properly anyway because some mobs and ashen whatchyamacallits are in areas you can’t get to even with that item from venari so no idea if thats a bug or I missed something, seems messy to me.

Gonna try the other wing later and see how badly I do there lol

We need >4 gems to unlock next layer that means some people will have to run torghast dozens of times to finally get good rng with layout. I can’t wait for those angry forum posts :joy:

4 gems is pretty easy if you check the points for secondary objectives.

No it’s not easy for everyone. I can’t get 4 stars on my holy priest meanwhile on paladin and dh alts I got them on first try. It depends on anima powers that you get, and they rotate daily. Getting good team is … hard atm, and I would argue that it’s easier done solo than in group of 5. And please don’t forget that there are some people who struggle with reflex and they also would like to create r5 legendary :man_shrugging: with clearing only l9 it would take like 2.5months.

Here is a table with all extra objectives if you want to ignore the time you need to do 100 completion plus 60 from this table. (can be less depending on empower time)

Score Type Description Point Value
Annihilator Floor 5 boss killed in under 20 seconds 20
Collector Collect at least 30 Anima Powers 10
Daredevil Defeat 2 Elites within 10 seconds of each other 10
Executioner Floor 5 boss killed in under 40 seconds 10
Highlander No duplicate Anima Powers 15
Hoarder Defeat the floor 5 boss with at least 500 Phantasma remaining (Note: Phantasma required will scale up per member of your party!) 10
Hunter No elite enemies reached 4 stacks of Unnatural Power 15
Pauper No epic Anima Powers 10
Pillager 90% of Ashen Phylacteries destroyed 5
Plunderer Opened treasure chests 5
Reinforced Collect at least 5 Obleron Armaments of the same type 10
Rescuer Assisted a denizen of Torghast 10
Robber Robbed a Broker (Requires blessing active OR usage of a ) 5
Savior All Soul Remnants freed 10
Trapmaster No trap damage taken 10

A fair number of specs are going to be reliant on good rng with anima powers to get 60 points out of that list.

I’ve checked those points on wowhead before and yea it’s doable if you clear 100% deathless. Still I would like to see some anima power buffs for couple of classes. But I wont ask for changes atm as we still don’t know how it’s going to look at highter layers. L9 is kinda outgeared by us so it’s hard to judge.

If you abuse or empower and get some points from time who is normal to happen at max you need like 30 to 40.

Trapmaster 10
Savior 10
Rescuer 10
Plunderer 5
Daredevil 10
Hoarder 10
Collector 10

this ones are easy to do and give 65 points.

Some classes don’t work well with empower buff, and some will die cause some mobs hits like truck. But with perks from box of many things it should get a lot easier.

Still, Blizzard added score and gated next layers behind it so now they should spend some time on balance that they could ignore in 9.0.

The timer is utterly irrelevant tho, just clear the level & the completion & bonus points will carry you to 4 gems at least.

Just try to complete a few bonus points in particular with the empowerment & you’re good to go (2 elites killed within 10 sec, end boss killed in 40sec, 5 stats power etc)

Took my time trying to get 100% completion for every floor & ended up with 260 score on a 200ilvl character for a level 9 with no research. I honestly doubt it’ll be an issue for any spec once we get 9.1 gear, and once we start getting the research perks it won’t be an issue for anyone.

One could argue that your health & mana bars are soft timers, and ones you can’t ignore as easily as Torghast’s.

I dislike the M+ implementation but timers definitely have their place in RPGs, if only to make sure that boring behaviour like a healer or tank spending hours taking down a boss simply because they outheal his dmg and slowly chip away his health bar. Meatbags aren’t challenging or interesting, and if it takes a soft timer to deal with it then so be it.

Some specs like havoc can get there without the upgrade & sometimes you can just walk there if you’re talking about the big chains. Otherwise yeah you need the upgrade.

Why not going slowly & aim for 100% completion with some bonus points here & there ? Just throwing the buff whenever I’m about to kill elites seemed to be enough for ~25 empower bonus points last time I tried.

I understand that havoc has an easy time in Torghast but any decently geared character should be able to do what my 200ilvl one can achieve.

Trapmaster : 10

Saviour : 10

Robber (requires one of the early researchs or the vendor anima orb) : 5

Rescuer : 10

Plunderer (feels like there’s at least 1 chest per run so this should be doable) : 5

Pillager : 5

That’s 45 points regardless of your powers or performance, use the empower on a few elites or the end boss & you should easily get the 160 points required.

Or just kill the boss under 40 sec and you only need 5 bonus points. The two elite kills should also be very easy to secure regardless of your spec.

Honestly that should be within reach of basically anyone.

It wasn’t the chains, it was balconies surrounding the main area with no clear link to get to them, I have the venari item but saw nothing to make use of it so either I missed something which I’m happy to accept I may have, the area is bugged with those mobs who shouldn’t be counted for the floor clear but are or the item is bugged :man_shrugging:

I’m not bothered, it just seems messy to me.
