This place is a lot of wasted potential tbh, because the reward structure simply sucks. Twisting Corridors was supposed to be the place to farm cosmetics etc. I don’t know whether I expected too much but
- a pet
- a mount
- a title
- a toy
(none of that is in plural!)
is not what I expected from 8 layers 18 floors each, which takes about 15 hours to beat if you beat them all on your first attempt (and that’s a very generous ‘if’). This is about as much time as it takes you to beat an entire single-player game like Doom 2016. A long one at that, as we had lots of single player campaigns that could be beaten in 5 hours (not a speedrun, just regular playing).
I mean, the mobs do drop gold. Amounts of it are nowhere close to be worth it but they do drop it. Why not give them anima drops? Anima is that meme currency that isn’t going to make anyone too good by hard-grinding it, but it might save you the chore of doing world quests. Also there is no reward on odd layer numbers, just the even ones.
We might have a piece of content that will see some of the lowest participation ever, because it’s simply not compelling enough to attempt. It is really time consuming, has no checkpoints, can be frustrating and lead you into dumping 90-120 min for nothing, is not that easy to complete (and that’s by design too). Yet the rewards are very uninspired, slapped there for the sake of it, 0 effort has been put into them as the assets were already there in the game anyway. Even grinding island expeditions had some element of surprise of mounts and transmog gear pieces.

yup…I think they really screwed up here. Torghast was supposed to be the mage tower type content to keep the competitive players interested and engaged.
But it is extremely dull, lacking in decent rewards and too time consuming to do.
They really needed to put some decent rewards into it. Either have some sort of currency to farm, better rewards or something more exciting happening (having all the layers be unique and changing isnt that great if they are all basically just a dungeon with standard mobs).
It needs some sort of random event in there like a portal that sucks you to the deepest layers of Torghast (or even misfires and shoots you into another realm) with some mounts, pet, toys and transmog set based on this portal effect. (just an example!!)

Im on 210 EQ shadow and today was my first run at layer 8…
At 17th floor the rats had 87k HP and some packs literally 2shotted me
The tormentor channeling did like 160k dmg on me, pretty weird stuff id say
more like 240+ armor tokens u can send to alts …
Personally was hoping for transmogs and more cosmetics, 4 items things that aren’t really appealing is just meh, still doing it cuz its fun.
Also where is the infinite mode
Why just 8 layers? why no infinite layers? Why not infinite floors?

Torghast described in a nutshell
3 hours wasted for nothing, because bugs make your anima powers go away, or you cant rush it cos death means losing anima power forcing you to take it slow the very thing that most complain about, not that its hard but because it takes to long to clear.

who not go to layer 30+ becourse in SL the ilvl goes allway up to ilvl 300
I think some Anima would be appropriate whenever you complete a floor. Just so you get some reward even if you’re not capable of successfully defeating the final boss.
And it also makes each floor feel rewarding in and of itself, whereas now it feels like one long stretch and only the final boss matters.
It doesn’t have to be much Anima, just something to give a sense of reward beyond the final boss itself.

Anima droped from ea mosnter killed is better … so if u skip mods u skip anima aswell … clearing fully floor meens more anima … if u fail the run u get anima anway … deafiting a boss gives soul ashes
They didn’t even need to give us gear.
But seriously… 8 layers. 4 of them give you NOTHING. and we’re basically doing 7 of them for the sake of the final one that gives the mount.
It should have at least had an anima or stygia or soul ash reward.
Blizzard. We don’t want infinite grindable loot source from torghast. But at least, make it worth something. Even island expedition had lots of toys and pets and mounts in it.

there is boxes u open it gives over 200 soul ashes when u open it and u keep it no mather if u fail …
the number of boxes will be incresed in 9.1.0 and they even add soul ash quests to the misson table thing aswell …
I’m kinda glad there’s not that many rewards in there because it is just the exact same thing layer 1 through 8 because of how it’s scaled or whatever you pretty much only have the 1 build to fish for.
That said it would’ve been really cool with some mini challenges within torghast that gave you various rewards but not directly tied to completing it.
It would be way more forgiving if wiped you could restart back 1 floor behind maybe 2 instead of all the way to the start like a check point where you still have powers you had but another chance, and get rid of powers that go away upon death re summon or whatever those always bug out they have no place in torghast
They need to tweak torghast to be more forgiving and less time consuming, you cant really try again and learn from mistakes if you not allowed to make mistakes and have to restart and waste 3 hours every time just to learn, that is just rage inducing and has no place in wow, this is world of warcraft not dark souls and even so dark souls is still far more forgiving.
a Torghast run can take easly 5 hours if u do layer 8 full clear. what then if u have 1 main and 10 alts ? thats over 55 hours grind every week … thats like a full day work …
What? Are you talking about twisting corridors or the normal one?
this weeks twisting corridors the mods hits so rediclus hard u have to pull them
1 at time becourse they can kill u with 2 hits …
u dot them up then kite them so u dont take any damage …
Look its a given, some people absolute adore spending hours trying to figure out the in’s and out’s of that leaning tower of grey and damp decay and work out how to beat each level or floor better than they ran it the previous time.
Others will zip past in theorycrafter timed runs at the best cov/spec and stuffed in gear.
And yes others will trudge along wearily, in its current format it will never be one thing fits all and I imagine blizzard aren’t really that bothered. Look at all the feedback, both the good and the bad from both sides of the Atlantic. The last time anything worthwhile got changed, it was a as a result of a great deal more bad press than blizzard is getting now.
For me, once the story is run, I just won’t bother, if I ignore maw/torghast - SL isn’t that bad and I’m enjoying a lot of aspects. If I manage to do the storyline once at least, I can thankfully ignore the elements I dislike (except classes :().
What I would like to see for Torghast rewards:
-
Cosmetic gear, with more added over time. Plenty of Armour/weapons in game that you can’t obtain as transmog. Even re-colours or HD models of older gear would be nice.
-
Catch-up gear for alts (eventually, with the major patches releasing).
-
More pets, more toys or mounts. They can feel free to add the same ones from the islands, not like most people have everything from that. Or stuff from older expansions.
-
Reputation Badges for alts (can be later in the expansion)
-
Anima, if they don’t want it to be a farm they can add low amounts from bosses.
But just so we get some while spending time in there.
-
…
(Not that I expect all or even anything of that being implemented)
To me Torghast feels under-utilized, I know some people don’t like it but to me this is what Islands should have been: not pressed for time, bit challenging and loads of fluff rewards. I could have lived with nothing for progression to be had from that place.
A shame its going to be one of those things we’ll abandon next expansion… like so many things we abandoned in past expansions that could have been build upon to get something better.
Naturally, I expected more of a rouge-like and on that part its a bit of a disappointment… but realising that’s not what we’ll ever get, I still like it. Just that spending time in there feels a bit unrewarding.
In a perfect world I’d have dungeons scaling from 1 to 5. But seems they won’t even consider that.
