Torghast rewards?

So I need 1250 soul Ash, and one layer only rewards 120? Are they kidding me right now?

And the more higher you go up in terms of layer, the lesser the soul ash reward is. I was told layer 8 only gives 40 soul ash. Like… what? I hate the fact I need to go in there in the first place so I can finally mog these ugly Shoulders, but now I need to do it many times in order to get 1250 soul ash?

Ion… why? Why?

NO! layer 8 gives you 40 plus soul ash for lower layers. Forgot but i think it’s 540 in total

So it’s 540 for layer 8 alone?

If you go strait to level 8 yes. if you go layer per layer then it will be 40 ,but you ahve to do that only once to unlock it.
And achievement is account wide ,so you only need to do it once on one character.

Well that’s good news. As soon as I’m done with this quest I ain’t going back there again.

Basically ,you will have to climb thru all layers in one wing to unlock all ,which will give you 540 soul ash in total ,and for next wing you can go strait to layer 8 and get 540 from one run.

Also ,don’t forget that bolvar have quests for bit of soul ash too.

On your first character you need to unlock all the layers from scratch, but once it’s done you can start directly on layer 8 and it’s account-wide. Each layer will provide the reward from any layer(s) below but when you do it for the first time and start from layer 1, it seems like layer 2 gives less Soul Ash than layer 1. This is because you already got the reward from layer 1, so those 120 soul ash is deducted from layer 2. Once you have unlocked layer 8, you can start there directly every week. These are the Soul Ash rewards for each layer, but remember if you do layer 8, you will get the reward from every layer below that you haven’t already cleared that week.

  • Layer 1 rewards 120 Soul Ash.
  • Layer 2 rewards 100 Soul Ash.
  • Layer 3 rewards 85 Soul Ash.
  • Layer 4 rewards 70 Soul Ash.
  • Layer 5 rewards 60 Soul Ash.
  • Layer 6 rewards 50 Soul Ash.
  • Layer 7 rewards 45 Soul Ash.
  • Layer 8 rewards 40 Soul Ash.

This means that layer 8 gives you a total of 570 soul ash. Since 2 wings are open each week it means 1140 soul ash. Assuming you have time to do the initial grind to unlock all the layers you will get your first legendary on your second week of playing. You can even skip straight to the rank 2 legendary (210ilv) as they cost 2000 soul ash.

With that being said, given your current itemlevel of 165, you might find layers 6-8 to be challenging, depending on your skill level. If you get stuck on the first week, don’t stress too much about it. Layer 1-4 are trivial in comparison and will provide you with enough soul ash to make a legendary once you re-clear on week 2.

Higher layer gives the Soul Ash of lower ones too, basically. It increases in the sense that the higher one you do, the more soul ash you get but that’s what you would’ve get from the rest, as others explained.

As others have said, it’s the sum of all soul ash rewards from lower layers.

I think the goal was to say “Hey, if layer 8 is hard for you right now; no biggie. Do layer 6 and you’ll get 85% as much anyway.”

As with most of WoW these days, diminishing returns

Not entirely related but I will ask anyway.

Is there a point in upgrading a legendary from 3 to 4 now, or can I just go from 3 to 5 in 9.1?

Thanks everyone. I got the message

What you need to know is that when you complete a certain layer, you’ll get the soul ash from all previous layers as well. That means you can just do L8 once per week and get all the soul ash there is for the wing (540 or 570 not sure rn)

You can upgrade your legendary from 190 to 235 if you’d like. What you need to know though is that you won’t waste any soul ash if you upgrade it one by one (190-210-225-235) as the soul ash cost for the next rank will decrease with each upgrade. Basically the only reason not to upgrade it one by one is the cost of the runecarving armor (probably not the correct name). The cost depends on your armor type. I remember I sold 210 cloth boots for only 180g, while 210 boots for my shammy cost several thousands.

So with the new crafted piece in 9.1, I will be able to go from rank 1 to 5 in one go, without having to buy all the in between pieces?

Correct.
You can get rank 1
Then save all your soul ash until you have the cost of upgrading from 1-4 (3900 Soul ash) and then just buy the item slot of rank 5 that you need and you are good to go.

The soul ash cost to upgrade is the difference between the rank you have and the rank you want.

So if you have rank 2 and want to upgrade to rank 4, you need to get 3150 Soul Ash and the item you are crafting. (You dont need the secondary stat missives, they remain).
