Torn between Mage or lock for WotLK

Title says , i got them both to lvl 26 and literally stuck:( I want to do both pve/pvp. Im a noob so dont know much about wotlk.

Players with experience, could u please write pros/cons for them for both pve/pvp?

Thanx in advance.

If you are a “newbie”, go for Mage. Easier to level, easier to survive and fight in PvP, especially if you are on your own. Got a lot of “oh s*it” buttons, like Ice Block, you got a Frost Shield, you have many roots/slows, Evocation will heal also HP with a glyph in Wrath.

If you are a noob and wanna kill other players, choose deathknight.

But otherwise its like Santori said. Between warlock and mage, mage is easier to play, since you have more tools to survive and pet control is less important. However, both classes are hard to master in pvp.

Pve wise its hard to say, because we dont even know which patch design Blizzard will use for class changes. Mage should still be easier in pve, but warlock isnt that hard to handle too and to my taste the rotations are usually more complex and more fun.

I’d actually say Fire Mage is harder too play then all 3 warlock specs in wotlk PvE. Since you will be comparing the top 2 endgame specs (most likely). These are Fire mage vs Affliction WL, and in my opinion Affliction WL has the least complicated spell list or rotation out of all the WL specs. On the other hand Fire Mage is heavy Crit depended, so at start it will most likely suck…

EDIT: PvP it will be frost mage vs Destro WL. Which I would favor the frost mage.

In the end, it doesn’t matter what’s stronger or harder. Just play what u like most…

thanx all for the info!

I levelled my mage to 28 and lock to 24. I can say that i did not enjoy frost, fire is so fun to play.

Also did not like demo at all, affli is so much fun tho. I read online some guides, they say affli is support dps spec , so i might as well go with mage.

For pvp i wil do casual bgs, not serious arenas.

You could have both? Levelling in WoTLK is so much easier and faster than Vanilla and TBC, having multiple alts wont be a problem for anyone.

BIS lock still loses fire mage i guess>

I asked myself the same. But then I got so annyoed by the random demon names. When my imp was called Piztip I had enough. So I rolled Mage. Have had a lot of fun and taken it to 70…
I guess its about how you like to play. Warlock is a beast though…

PvE: Mage is never top till Bis ICC gear. Warlock top tier besides TotGC

PvP: Mage dictates who to fight and usually when to start/end the fight in open world. More comps to play in arena. Warlock is durable but no burst if not Destro, and immobile. Destro in arena limited comps ,if no cc from teammates people will shut u down.
