First time posting on these forums! I returned after 11 years of not playing(last time was start of MoP), because my pc couldn’t handle retail through the years, but with my new PC managed to come back in DF. I like the expansion a lot, in all honesty but a lot of things have change since the last time I played. Now that I came back, I’ve tried monk since I never actually played in MoP and also leveled an alt hunter. Now I’m torn between these two classes, I find them both very cool, both have lots of mobility which I’m still getting used to. My aim will be mostly arenas (since I saw I can play on my own now) and some BGs. I know Monk can fulfill two other roles, but to clarify, I only play DPS, I have no intention to heal or tank. I’m also looking for the one with easier performance overall and better survivability? I’d really appreciate your advice!
If Legion hadn’t happened, I would have told you to go with Monk.
Tigereye brew and Chi brew were two very fun and unique mechanics.
But they’re gone.
If you want absolute easiness, go with BM Hunter.
If you want fun, go with Survival Hunter. A bit harder, but more unique, more rewarding, and definitely strong once mastered.
Monk is somewhat fun too, but very squishy and punishing if you suck and if you expect to play it like you’d play a Warrior.
Don’t forget that there is something called class trials, which allows you to try a any class at level 60 so you can get a feel of how they play.
Hunter can swap between melee and ranged dps which is a super nice flexibility to have in a pure dps class.
Monk on the other hand has in my opinion the best healing spec in the game in the form of fistweaver which allows even a mongoloid like me to sometimes enjoy punching people back to health. Also there is the windwalker melee dps spec but who the hell cares about that am I rite?
But yeah, in the end it’s up to you to decide. Do you want to be one of the legion with hunter or a unicorn with monk. I mean in the grand scheme of things, monks are popular in pvp however in the whole scale of the game they are probably one of the least played classes around.
Thanks for your reply! I asked some far more experienced players with over 2100 rating in PVP about that, and they say monks may be “tanky” if played correctly. I guess this has something to do with their management of both mobility and defensive CDs.
I wouldn’t say tanky. People legit ignore your defensive CDs and power through Touch of Karma.
It’s a hit and run playstyle. It takes some getting used to, and if you’re new or rusty, it can be difficult at first.
Some people enjoy a challenge though. If it sounds fun to you, give it a shot. Accept that you’ll struggle a bit more than you would have if you were a BM Hunter, and eventually you’ll learn how to play Windwalker correctly.
