Totally useless runes: Mage

Balefire Bolt - Another fireball replacement. Useless. Arcane talent tree has no talents to boost arcane damage. Offers ZERO GAMEPLAY CHANGE. It’s just a different fireball.

Arcane talent tree has no talents to boost arcane damage.- There is no use for this in PvE, and in PvP Deep Freeze is always better.

Temporal Anomaly - Literally a waste of a click to cast. 125 points of shield. That’s it. That’s the rune.

Spellfrost Bolt - Another fireball replacement. Does nothing. Arcane talent tree has no talents to boost arcane damage. Offers ZERO GAMEPLAY CHANGE. It’s just a different fireball.

Ice Lance - damage too low to be worth using, even in Frost spec Living Bomb is straight up better. Useless in PvE.

Living Flame - went from our only decent ability in P1 to unusable in any situation in P3. The duration and slow speed mean this simply doesn’t connect. An ability so nerfed it fell from S tier to X tier.

Enlightenment - Runes that do nothing a lot of the time aren’t useful.

Arcane Surge - This was fun for a little bit. Then the PvP damage reduction came in, and it became unusable - it always needed a nearly full mana bar to do its thing, and now it doesn’t deal anywhere close to enough damage to justify burning the whole bar (especially as drinking to full takes so long).

Rewind Time - You cannot use this in arcane healer mode, because you need Arcane Blast. Would be good otherwise,

What runes did your class get given that do nothing at all?

yeah kinda the same with warlocks 2/3 of runes are unplayable in pve let’s not even talk in pvp :joy:

Spellfire bolt can be a good replacement for AB if there will be situations where you need to heal huge 1-timed damage with rewind time. It’s just situational runes, not completely useless. But we will see, it depends of raid mechanics ofc, if there will be huge one-time damage it can be a good replacement for AB, and using spellfire + rewind time can be a good solution.

Also remember that rewind time was bis ability for STV mage cleaves.

Yes probably they should make it 45 sec cd / 15 sec duration, with 60/20 it was too strong, with 30/10 it’s useless, 45/15 would be perfect.

If you think these runes are bad then you should try out arcane barrage on the PTR.
On the serious note, I think most of these issues could be fixed by numerical tunning.

The big problem is in arcane there is very little synergies all around.

  • Arcane talent tree needs a retune for sure.
  • Balefire bolt is extremely anti-synergetic with the rest of our abilities (Evo, surge), I see 2 options to be usable, 1 be a unique execute ability then it needs more damage, 2 make some interesting interaction with surge and invocation, like it consumes your stacks for extra mana regen or bonus damage and reduced healing
  • Arcane barrage is a joke

Arcane mages are not healers.
Arcane is a full-dps spec and needs great buffs.
