Toxicity towards new players

Anectodal evidence does not makes it the truth.

I do not think the playerbase has ever been worse, but the playerbase has also almost never been smaller and we really only have broken people and addicts left playing this game. Even back in Legion there were a lot of talkative and nice people… now…? Yikes.

What an awful and unpleasant experience. Please do not take the following as victim-blaming but I do have some advice, especially for tanks who pug.

NEVER admit a mistake. NEVER EVER DO THIS. No matter how bad what you did was. Just never type anything. It will only embolden the sickos and the psychopaths playing this game, and will make them feel like they actually have a point. In fact I have seen so many runs saved by people just not responding at all to being flamed. Had a person straight up try and grief a pug key I was running with 10 minutes to go. No one said anything, just went on even though the person refused to heal us. We cleared all the trash and he just joined us for the boss fight like nothing happened. We timed the key with like 1 minute to go or something.

Hope you get better luck with nicer players!! Although sadly, most nice people in WoW just never type anything, so pretty much all social engagement comes from people losing their minds.

Yeah i’m not perfect mind…

but i am much more tolerant and friendly towards new people than the average joe these days :).

No, no, no. Normal and levelling dungeons are there for people to learn and improve, and others in the community should be supportive of this - new people joining the game should feel positive about contributing in group content and not dettered to do so and have a massive aversion so they never set foot in a dungeon again, let alone a raid.

I do not understand why the elitism is transferred to normal and levelling dungeons, I really don’t. Just chill, enjoy it and help your fellow man out a bit.

…and lord knows we need to be nicer to tanks and encourage them. There aren’t enough in the game playing and I completely understand. I love tanking on my prot warrior but you know what, it just isn’t worth the hassle. I make a point of being positive towards tanks in the game, especially if they are new and learning. And if a pull screws up, well never mind, just have a joke and a laugh about it and learn for next time…different affix combinations in different packs produce slightly different results and you can’t get 100% of them right 100% of the time.

I hate to admit it but wow isn’t what it used to be, you would definitely be in a more comfortable environment in FF, especially new players, I lost several of RAFs here as well due to the amount of toxicity or if you are not trying hard enough you won’t get far.

WoW is a harsh place to be at, it’s either you toughen your skin or be a softy and if you choose to be a softy then yeah you will have a much more wonderful time in FF.

People over exaggerate it with this toxic things, is getting a bit tiring at this point. My experience has been the same as in other games. Wow is not special. Yeah sometimes you’re going to get bad apples because this is a mmo and as such is going to be a reflection of real world archetypes. What’s the big deal if someone types some angry words? Move on, ignore them and like in real world where you don’t expect from others to hold you hand and sing lovely songs try to find some like minded people to play with.

I can flip it the other way, which is closer to the reality for the new player:

My experience has not been the same as in other games. WoW is special. Yeah, sometimes you’re going to get good people because this is an MMO, and as such it’s going to be the reflection of real world archetypes. What’s the big deal if someone writes the kind words? Move on, don’t cling to them as in the real world, where you don’t expect others to hold your hand and sing lovely songs. Try to find some like-minded people to play with.

It’s gonna be a challenge and a half. WoW is extremely competitive, minmaxing environment, full of people ready to tell you that you’re not worth the air you breathe, because you don’t have the right covenant…

I loved the everything about BFA Cinematic trailer, as well as the other WoW Cinematic trailers, all of them look amazingly decent. However, BFA trailer (and Legion) has a special place for me, because Sylvanas appeared in it, and she is one of my favourite Lore characters.

You’ve almost had me. Almost. Good one. It’s not easy to recognize irony from intent nowadays… Not just in WoW, but IRL as well.

Ppl who talk about having ´´thick skin´´ in video games:

REEEEEE WHY WONT WOMEN SLEEP WITH ME. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE WHY ARE BLACK PPL IN TV SERIES AND MOVIES. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. WHY IS XYZ LGBT??? REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

How these sort of people have the audacity of talking about needing ´´thick skin´´. Pathetic.

Well, you certainly do have a thick skin, you’ve just made it perfectly clear.

If you posted this reply, and you disagree. Because I like Sylvanas, and you don’t, that’s just you. Not everyone thinks the same, and there are quite number of people that like Sylvanas, like I do.

Also, what’s wrong with people, trying to be provocative and point it at “thick skin” when someone else likes a female video game character? Is that only thing you know and think about females? Too sad for you. You may not like it yourself, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you should reply in that manner. Anyways, I will not argue with you further.

I do not think people should be required to have ´´thick skin´´ to play a social video game.

Kinda hilarious I did not even see the part above where you cry because someone else likes Sylvanus. Looks like we found an incel out wide in the open on the forum though.

the thing with the term “thick skin” it implies that insults hit you enough to take recognition of them…

just food for thought…

isn’t it better to have “No skin”???

then insults will pass straight through you , you don’t even have to acknowledge them…

It looks like you dislike Sylvanas. Looks like YOU are a wide incel yourself for posting pointless, provocative, and irritating replies on the Forums. Because you have nothing else contributing to say.

Anyways, be salty all you want, and I don’t like the orcs and I could point that at you, but I just won’t bother.

I would love to see an official poll on the topic. Just a simple question, and two options.

Do you like Sylvanas?

  • yes
  • no

That’s it. In some official manner, at least Twitter poll or something. I’d bet the result would surprise you. But probably not. I think Asmongold was right when he said that the easiest way to get Sylvanas back to the good graces of the WoW players is to make her boobs bigger.

Because everything else would require some very clever writing, to repair the humongous damage which has been done to her character and the Horde as a whole, and god knows the typewriter-hitting-monkeys responsible for the lore nowadays are not remotely capable of that.

i like the “idea” of sylvanas does that count?

What do you mean by “the idea”?

Of course, I do like Sylvanas, as I stated above. Wasn’t it obvious for you? When I said:

VICTORY FOR SYLVANAS! FOR THE DARK LADY!

And, it’s quite ironic where are you coming from with this reply of yours, taking your idea from Asmongold, and you are posting that reply. Maybe speak of your own mind, in this case?
