Trade Chat is unreadable

but then they’ll realise everyone is blocking ‘boost’ and just change the word won’t they, similarly with a different channel, advertisers will always find a way to target where the people are most active…hey…don’t you miss when they used to write the website name in dead bodies in Orgrimmar?..

Not even when it’s a bother to SO many players? Not even when the spam becomes so obnoxious that it is all there’s room for in a public chat?

I really find that to be wrong somehow

Yeah they will use B00st (they’re zeros) or something similar, so you add that to badboy too.

The kinds of people using addons like Badboy to block the boost ads in trade are not the audience boosters are aiming for. The people who are looking for boosts would be far less likely to be blocking.

As @Punyelf says above, if players are deliberately blocking their messages it’s because they have no intention of using their services. Changing their message is not going to change that intention. Believe it or not, they are not deliberately trying to annoy everyone… it’s simply a bi-product of the service they are trying to sell. We are the eskimo’s and they are selling ice.

I would be technically ok with their spamming, if I could block it. All these addon suggestions will require me to set up series of keywords that risk me blocking relevant messages. Its almost same thing as setting up email spam filters. You can block portion of them, but some will eventually get trough because you didnt block some variation of what they say.

What these boost spammers are doing is circumventing existing blocks by using several accounts, 1lvl alts , delete and make new. Some possibly even use hacked accounts for this.

That should be something that gets you banned or something else. If they want to sell boots, sell them with their own accounts. I want to be able to ignore them all.

People selling stuff in trade chat, weird…right?

another +1 for badboy to block tradechat spam.

What’s the better option for the casual player who does not use any add-ons? The current situation is unbearable.

Sadly only your /ignore function which has an upper limit I am afraid.

If it helps, Badboy is one of the lowest resource addons I have in my collection and it is silent/unintrusive to your gameplay.

So they can spamm their macros every second and we cant do anything about it other then spending hours to block thousands of spammers?
Srsly blizz?

Gg, keep going this way

No, they can’t, the chat system would block that itself, but I do realize you don’t really mean every second. I’m not sure what blizzard consititutes as an acceptable time frame between repeating the ad to be honest and it was hard for me to tell one advertiser from another, it may look like the same person but they are just using pretty much the same text. Hence why I added the filters to badboy, I got fed up with all the spam.

How about Blizzard implemented an actual “temporal-ignore” feature in the right-click menu? Because that actually is what a lot of people currently use reporting for. If somebody spams stupid nonsense in a public channel i basically have four options:

  1. Get an Addon specifically to ignore players
  2. Accept it and don’t use public channels anymore
  3. Use the actual WoW-Ignore feature…which forced me to go through my ignore-list regularily and clear it because otherwise it will just fill up very quickly
  4. Rightclick report them for spam

Out of those 4 options (4) is obviously the fastest and most reliable one. It does not cost me anything and gets the job done: It INSTANTLY removes the person from my chat without me having to manage some list in the background. And really? That is all i want. Most of the time i don not WANT these players to even be investigated for spamming…i just want to get them out of my chat NOW. Even if it only lasts till the next /reload. That is fine.

I believe Blizzard could remove a LOT of reporting if they simply added a new right-click-menu option: Session ignore.

Badboy does not ignore players, it merely hides any chat you dont want to see.

If you added “Selling M+ Runs” and I spoke that in Trade Chat, you would not see it. If I then said in Trade Chat “Lovely weather we are having” you would see it. So it blocks blacklisted chat, not the actual player.

Its the constant spamming that matters. On AZ/QT you have the same guy (Presumedly using a script/bot) advertising every x seconths. Its automation. It shouldnt be allowed. Its simple as that. The only difference is, Bots generally play the game for you. These bots advertise theyr stufff for them.

Plus the fact half of them are scammers anyway… XD He also does that for a whole day btw… and I dont think anyone normall enough would be a legit player.

Those boosters are hiring extra advertisers to spam the channels… so probably you have one boosting group beign advertised by 4-5 chars, which imho is spamm, nothing else.

Since this boosting crap took overhand i am completely avoiding orgrimmar and other places you join the trading chanel, on some alts i also left that channel because of them…

I’m slightly curious as to how the ‘boosts’ actually work (not that I’d ever buy one). Can I just park at the entrance and set up a picnic table whilst the other 4 run around and complete it? Or do they expect me to fight too? In which case I want a 5th of the fee I’m being asked to fork out!

SWC trade chat doesn’t seem to be too bad for it. Due to lower pop at a guess, but it’s still there. Given gold can be exchanged for gametime which has a RL monetary value there isn’t really any difference in paying cash to be boosted. Which I thought wasn’t allowed…

This is the second post in two days about the boost spam. It is out of control. Boosts have always been around but in legion/BFA it has escalated beyond silly. Completely destroys integrity of the game.

Entire economy now revolves around tokens and services.

This spam is annoying indeed, it’s starting to happen more and more on Nordrassil as well, though mostly during the afternoon/evening. Even if it’s not against the rules as the GM mentioned, you shouldn’t have to resort to addons to block stuff like this. They use the same 3-5 line block of text everytime they post it in chat, why doesn’t that count as spam? I know there is a spam-timer but even outside of that timer, it’s still annoying.
