I really like that grey items now is more exciting due to transmog, but I have a question. When I unlock a grey item in my transmogs, I don’t get the purple tekst in the chat that tells me it’s been added to the collection. Is there a way I can turn that on for grey items? Always feels great with the confirmation my collection is bigger!

It works fine for me, I just bought 4 greys off the AH to check and they all registered with the ‘’[xxxxxxxx] has been added to your appearance collection’’.
Are you sure you didn’t already have the appearance unlocked? Some of these grey items share models with pre-existing green and above items.
Hmm, you may be on to something. But when I opened the Transmog-page, it’s showed me it in the list as “New”. So I should get some kind of announcement in the chat?.. I’ll look into it a bit further. If you say you’re getting it, maybe I have messed up the chat-settings or something.

Since I’m already perusing the auction house for transmog anyway, I thought I’d give it a test.
If you obtain a transmog you already had but from a different source, it will still show up as ‘‘New’’ in your interface but it will not give you the ‘’[xxxxxxxx] has been added to your appearance collection’’ message.
You can right click the model in the interface and it should show you the sources which you have the item from.
