Hello. As you all probably know by now the Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth became obsolete with time, nowadays it is nothing more than a mount to carry 2 friends, and/or a make do until we have enough gold to buy the Grand Expedition Yak. Because the food vendor on the Mammoth is basicly useless the only part that matters is the repair, which both the Yak and Brutosaur also offer. The other 2 “utility mounts”, as I call them, will never become obsolete simply because both of them have a feature that will always be useful, transmog on the Yak, auction house on the Brutosaur, while the Mammoth got the short end of the stick.
I am dissapointed with that because I actually like the mount, Blizzard even changed the Yak from having the reforge to having transmog when reforge was removed. I’m not here to cry about it tho, the point of this post was to actually offer some kind of solution, and maybe bring Blizzard’s attention to the subject, if Blizzard is interested in making the Mammoth relevant/special and also to know if more players, like me, would like to see the mount have some “revival”.
So, at the moment apart from the repairs what we have on the Mammoth is a food vendor. I guess the most obvious solution would be to update the food it sells with every expansion, that would make that vendor always relevant with food that is actually useful for max lvl players, and would be an incentive to use and/or buy it. If that isn’t good enough however that vendor could simply be replaced by some other useful vendor, like for example a profession vendor with mats for all professions, so you don’t have to run back to the city everytime you need some vendor materials while leveling up your professions. Needless to say the content this vendor would sell probably also needs to be updated each expansion. Because the Mammoth is the cheapest of the 3, and easy to get at this point, I’m not going to ask for a super useful vendor on the same level of the other 2 mounts, but there are still good options that can make this mount more relevant. Those 2 suggestions I made are just some options amongst many, I’d like to know what you guys think about this. Is it worth to change/update the vendor? Or is it just too much trouble for an old mount and should stay as is?
Tl;dr - Mammoth became obsolete with time because he doesn’t offer anything special/useful/different when compared with the Yak and Brutosaurus. Would you guys like for something to be done about it or it isn’t worth the trouble?
the mammoth was a nice and useful mount but pricey during wotlk.
but now its the poor mans vendors mount while the others cost more. Not everyone can afford 5 mill to have the auction house mount. Not sure about the yaks price tho.
But having amount that allows you to repair and sell junk items is never obsolete
I agree, maybe obsolete was as strong word from my part, it definitly has it’s uses, but as soon as you get the Yak, which is 120k, takes a while to get but it isn’t anything very hard to do, then the Mammoth is no longer necessary, unless you just wanna use it for the sake of using it, like any other mount, and that is fine, personally I would just like to see him have a spot for himself just like the other 2. A reason to still pick him up even after you still have any of the other. But I get it if he is just to remain as he is.
I still see more way mammoths than yaks around, most people dont really seem to bother with the more pricey yak because they are not in a hurry to change tmogs everywhere. They just do that when they hearthstone back to a capital
I am one of those people. I would buy the AH mount if i had the gold. But Tmogging things generally is not needed on a whim. I would argue the Yak was way more useful and worth its heavy price when reforging still was a thing
There’s a very sweet spot for the Mammoth: when you do not want or need transmog (Yak) or an auctioner (Brutusaur), the Mammoth is just perfect.
If I want to transmog, I’ll go to Boralus, or pop an attire readjuster. Happens infrequently enough to not need a mount with me all the time. If I want to do auctions, I go to Boralus, or log my AH alt. Thus, I do not need the Brutusaur, either.
For what I need, the Mammoth is just perfect, and the other two are a waste of my money.
Hmmm ok, fair enough, I can agree with that. Well… Maybe I was just seeing things the wrong way I guess… Everybody brought fair points that made me rethink my view on the subject. Thank you.
But, I would like to at least get some updated food on that vendor, I mean, that one does basicly nothing there, poor dude…
True, true. I get it. My main issue was with the other vendor that at this time is basicly useless, and that could change if updated/replaced for something that could be useful in any expansion, but I probably didn’t formulate the post well enough. Either way, with all the replies I realized it does have his own niche, the one you just mentioned, and I wasn’t seeing it that way before. Thank you for the reply tho.
It’s 20k, but I guess you didn’t get the point of the post anyway. I guess if you cared to read all of it you’d understand I was not asking for the Mammoth to be on the same level of the Brutosaur, I even mentioned that… It was just a matter of somehow making the food vendor relevant for current expansions instead of just being there, like the unique vendors on the other 2 that never stop being relevant.
I wouldn’t call mammoth obsolute. It’s cheap and provides you not only a repair anywhere outdoors but also a vendor to clean up your inventory.
Having a transmog is cool and all but it’s available in multiple captails and you don’t realy need to transmog that often. The same goes for auction house. It’s not that much of an effort to go to SW or Orgrimmar at the end of your play session to do the aucitons.
In my mind yak and brutosaur aren’t worth their price becasue what they provide is something I don’t need access to that often. Mammoth is just so affordable and provides most useful utiliy.
