So for a long time I was wondering, are enchanted or magical items worth alot or even rare in the world? How powerful could enchanted items be and how much would they achieve on the market? Could they be looked upon negatively by either faction and who would buy them, would one be able to sell them openly or would they have to be sold secretly and under the table?
And what about Artifacts? A world as old as Azeroth should have artifacts laying about it everywhere, how hard would it be to actually find such Artifacts and would it be reasonable to assume they could be aquired and sold openly?
Most of all this is just me trying to figure out how to properly RP as a Merchant and not coming off as some random Merchant that just carries āSupergearā with him with no explanation. Either way Iād love to hear from other Merchant RPāers or just people in general that have more experience with this than me. Iād be thankful for all replies or help anyoneād like to offer
I suppose it all depends how you wish to approach it. Are you an Arcanist, whom enchants what gear he can salvage travelling far and wide to peddle his wears? If so, if you are novice maybe the enchants you sell are basic, only powerful enough to in-vigour the user or are you well-trained, selling enchanted weapons to some of the finest heroes, but at a higher cost?
Regarding artefacts, perhaps you are formally with the Explorers league, using what you have learned to strike it out on your own. Going from zone to zone, digging and diving through old ruins and caves, taking what artefacts you find. Perhaps you went to Desolace and looted the old Night Elf ruins, taking these back to the cities to sell to those with a keen eye or of high nobility and gold to burn.
Just a few ideas, but all depends on how you character is as a person. If he is seeking greater profits for more illeagl items, why does he take that risk? Or is he an āhonest Joeā, only selling what he needs to eat and secure a room for the night.
You could also look at addons, such as TRP3:extended, or GHI which many use too, so you can make your own items or artefacts and actually trade and sell these to other RPers. The main thing is this, have fun with it.
www.argent****archives.***org/node/188034 (remove stars) - This is a great link to Argent Archives with a full guide on RPing a merchant, so has a lot of useful info for RP you have planned. If you not already set-up on AA I would highly recommend it.
Iāve RPed a travelling dark peddler on my alt Toxiblast for years. Some products she makes herself such as potions and some enchants, while artifacts and rare items and ingredients are brought to her by mercs and adventurers and the odd pirate crew. I usually hire them and DM events where they procure the items - usually under alot more hazardous conditions than advertised.
A lot of my RP is just shooting the with potential customers or arguing over prices but once in a glorious while I get to sell someone a cursed item and the cackling commences.
My two cents: Do it! Merchant RP is not only fun but honestly one of the best things for the server as you offer āfreeā RP and good background atmosphere. Whether food or cursed necklaces, both of which I recommend!
