They seem incredibly low compared to simple armor pieces - or is that just because I’m hunting for trinket and weapons?

Is probally is lower for weapons but it will mostly be a wildly know bug called “Sods law”.

That’s what it definitely feels like but I would guess if you’re trying to get something specific, then yeah it’s gonna take a long time to get. 
I did the normal raid yesterday, and got pretty much all I needed. Trinket, shoulders(had had the 252 cypher ones I feel like forever).
No it is incredible low.From my experience some trinkets people say " it’s a myth".
So instead of hunting those i just forget them and at soooome point,someplace they drop.(if).
it just feels low because there are more armor pieces, weapon/trinket is 3-4 of the possible slots so it just feels like they drop less.

It’s completely random. Hunting for any specific item will make you think that it refuses to drop, while in fact the chances of getting a very specific item out of the end-of-dungeon chest or a raid boss is quite low. This season I was actually drowning in trinkets and weapons but shoulders were refusing to drop despite me farming shoulder dungeons a lot.
As an example: Tazavesh streets has 11 items that I can get out of it as a mage. Assuming that I get an item at the end of the run in the first place, it’s a 1/11 chance that it is going to be the specific item you are hunting. The odds are really not high, so it’ll take a while to farm targetted loot.
still rocking with a 226 bow on my hunter and a 246 2H on my warrior, weapons refuse too drop … I only do M+
If your items are this low, go and do some casual PvP. They buffed the item levels of honor gear, so you can get 260-ish stuff without that much effort required.
It’s rng. I’m having bis 304 trinket, one 291 weapon and one 288 weapon on rogue.
Still running two 268 honor gear pieces (boots and something else that I can’t remember atm).
