High Elves not having a glow while BElves do also makes no sense lorewise.
Blizzard donât always makes sense, Big E. Itâs their thing.
I honestly donât know where blizzard are going with that narrative.
They need to make it more clear. Every out of game release they have shows High Elves, mostly rangers and civilians, with no blue glow and very human-like eyes, to which I then started accepting the idea that High Elves then would not have a glow naturally, unless they were in some occupation where they used magic consistently, which fits the overall theory on why the High Elven eyeglow changes depending on magic.
The golden eyes are said to affect all Blood Elves equally in an interview as I stated earlier, this means that at some point High Elves have been severed from the Sunwell⊠somehow⊠or blizzardâs lore crew is just not consistent in the ramblings. Because as per the interview, if High Elves are still connected to the Sunwell, then they too should get golden eyes like the Blood Elves.
If that happened theyâd all start dying of magical addiction withdrawal again. Which Iâd be a fan of, of course, but probably not Blizzâs intention.
Agreed.
So far right now I imagine blizzard not only need to clean up in the larger lore, but the details of it as well⊠lots of work for blizz to do!
Eh. The ones at QuelâDanil meditated their way through not needing magic or something. Others would follow suit.
I dont need to know dev background of the said customisation, when follow-up lore tells me that it works for everyone. It may be good for âdid you knowâ conversations, but definitely not when lore later on states otherwise in-game.
I only start caring when the consistency does not fit. The dev states it does work for all Blood Elves, and not just Priests and Paladins.
Fair enough.
But did they know that the High Elves are also still connected to the Sunwell regardless of the distance? Are their authors? Will it be made clear that all elves from Quelâthalas, will have gotten golden eyes?
I need some consistency in the story even in regards to the details, and the High/Blood Elven eyes is a âcomplicatedâ (Not really complicated no) piece of detail with a fair bit of implications.
I believe Dev meant that eventually, all blood elves will be cleansed from the fel taint; the Sunwell being Light and Arcane means that blue eyes are likely also a lore option in the future (though more slowly as Arcane doesnât have a âbonus corruption cleansingâ compared to the Light. Yes Arcane is opposed to Fel but what have you.)
Anyway, high elves are connected to the Sunwell. Their Light users can get golden eyes too.
Any Thalassian elf that isnât a void tainted bum, can have golden eyes.
I love to think that devs know about the game they work on, yes
Lore inconsistencies isnt something new, therefore approach goes like always - go with the latest lore
It is just not what the implied.
I was wrong about the devs stating the they unlocked the option for all Blood Elves regardless of class combos just for the sake of not wanting to lock a customization option to certain race-class combos.
The dev outright stated that the golden eyes would be available to all Blood Elf race-class combos because that is what the storyline says should be⊠according to that specific dev.
Opposed to and also seems to work as a fel-control security. Basically the combined Light and Arcane energies would quickly repel the slim amount of taint on the Blood Elf.
I would be very careful about putting the devs on such a piedestal though, because to me it seems they just donât. They may know about the larger lore parts, Arthas becoming the Lich King and such large things⊠but the details? Nah.
Remember that Chris Metzen forgot that a certain Wildhammer dwarf was actually alive.
The devs forget the details.
And even in this regard, they seem to absolutely forget Mâuru, and think it was all Anveena who cleansed the Sunwell, which is not at all the case.
Just to touch on this since everyone else has touched on the belves, I donât think it would be particularly outlandish to have playable forest trolls, we donât even need the Amani. The Darkspear were originally numbered at like 10,000 in terms of pop when they were first playable. We already have a faction of forest trolls in the Horde, itâs entirely reasonable to have the Revantusk tribe as a playable faction.
Still doesnt allow people to fill certain holes in lore even from the most logical standpoint you can come up with.
That said, you can, but dont pretend and say that its canon
Until I hear or see a clear answer as a retcon, I will presume it is a developer rambling about what he/she does not know or just blizzard implementing something for design convenience.
Remember
At the bidding of his new master, the wayward prince eventually returned to Azeroth and seized the site of the Sunwell, hoping to use the fount as a means to usher Kilâjaeden into the world. Ultimately, Kaelâthas was slain before his recklessness could bring ruin to Azeroth. In the wake of Kilâjaedenâs defeat, the draenei prophet Velen purified the Sunwell with the Light-infused heart of a fallen naaru, transforming the fount into a source of both holy and arcane energies.
This is a part of blizzardâs own World of Warcraft homepage
It is quite obvious that developers are sometimes if not most of the time, very confused about the details of their lore. They do actually have lore historians hired to compile and catalogue all of the lore in their various franchises.
Perhaps they need to hire some fact checkers as well as an insurance.
