During last week, I took some time and was reading eu and us forums, along with famous ironforge pro.
What reader can notice first is that all population and balance problems, all the drama is tied exclusively to pvp servers, be it us or eu, rppvp or plain pvp.
So what exactly happened during this summer when ironforge numbers/graphs show start of rapid decline of one faction on every single pvp server? And how come this migration didnt affect any pve server?
Many stories I did read even mention very balanced servers suddenly going down in population of one faction. So, what exactly happened all of the sudden?
Turns out world pvp and fair pvp balance was overrated and many people flocked to a server where their faction was dominant.
As there was no intervention to prevent this, with a few exceptions like Firemaw, we’re almost at the point of 1 faction servers.
Exactly this ^
When I realised that server balance on PvP is impossible and 30A:70H trend on my previous server won’t be fixed I transfered my main to PvE. It payed out as I am in a steady guild now while my previous PvP server has being killed first by Horde pressure, then by free transfers and absorbed into Flamegor Megarealm with 40A:60H (they only PvP realm left, besides our PvE realm, the 2 remaining alive servers in our language group).
World pvp is when you kill a bot of the opposite faction to take his mine/herb.
You think you want to play on a fair pvp server but you dont. Basicly proven by what happened to all the pvp servers
for zugs only 20/80 servers are balanced
You think you do but you don’t.
In Classic Vanilla, most tryhard Alliance players rolled to a FOTM realm where they had the top best guilds in the world, all at same place. It’s called Gehennas. Very easy life when you have all the sweaty in the world in the same place.
Once casual player realized they can’t get carried anymore in the open world due to the fact that being good in Classic Vanilla is very very easy (pop all your consumes in world pvp and gg wp), Horde started to get stronger and stronger with a shift in population. Phase 2 happened, and casual started to leave the realm and moved in other realm because “It’s to hard now, Horde is swarming all zone and I’m camped at every flypath”.
And you know the next part. Alliance started to fall off in term of population, while Horde was going more and more.
In Classic SOM, it’s the inverse : Alliance dominate everywhere, Horde is being dominated and they have instant BG tag .
Big problem with rolling on such a realm is that its just the big guys and their hordes of fans if the big guys quit then the server is dead, look at ferlina on the us side once the streamers left the server died.
Its not about being carried most likley though its just that being camped at flightpaths and even in capital citys kind of suck even more so if you hadnt made it to max level becouse you couldnt commit as much time as some people.
Alliance moved on if they wanted to play seeing as no one was going to fix the issue, once server transfer was opened there wasnt a chance in the world that people would stay on servers where there was to much of a imblance for to long. I started of on stonespine it was fairly blanaced untill some guilds started to transfer of but that was all that was needed each week a few more players left for “better realms” untill it became impossible to actually play the game.
seein as SOM is not about pvp really at all but about raiding (with buffed bosses and everything) it makes sense that people flock to the faction that is better for raiding just like the people who used the boost to reroll horde for tbc did, people want to get those like 5 extra dps out of their class. Without worldbuffs the dominance of the paladin buffs are even more of a big deal for the parse chasers.
ye im sure thats the reason and not because whole EU horde xfered to gehennas with tbc. good one
It was already Horde favored when the mass transfers started.
I can assure you, no one would have transfered to it as horde if it was Alliance favored in the hopes it will one day become Horde favored.
Yes, that pretty much can explain imbalance on big streamer servers. But how could we explain non-streamer servers where imbalance happened at the same time?
To me, following anyone in game is very creepy, but some like it, i guess.
Atleast on Stonespine (the only server I can talk about with any real level of sureity) the death came creeping slowly instead of the sudden death of a streamer server you couldnt really pinpoint the time Stonespine became dead, but most would probbably say somewhere around a month or maybe 2 after AQs launch and the explaination is easy for stonespine, slight imblance from the begining made worse when the transfers opened up was what killed the server slowly without transfers opening up Stonespine would have stod strong atleast untill naxx most likley
Many Horde players transfered to Gehennas, and on Alliance side the exodus due to Horde swarming started before the disband of APES anyway. It was expected that everyone and their mother from TBC private server and from dying/outstanding Classic server, were going to Gehennas Horde, because it is the safest place to be as Horde if you want to raids and PvP. Not to mention all the ally that rerolled Horde for TBC.
I hope in WOTLK they are going to do something because Horde is going to die instantly if they release PvP racial like it was, and the problem is going to be inverted (all players go Alliance for human racial and change race/faction).
The state of all realms is terrible because :
- Blizzard never worked on racial balance (remove them from the game).
- Blizzard never worked on faction issue that can arise on server.
Server should be locked once it is at 55/45 rate and no new players should be able to create a new character on a locked server (only player that are already part of the realm with a character, can create new characters).
Character transfert on locked server should be available with a waiting list that move player 1 to 1 once you are at the top of the list, to ensure that all realm never goes above the 55/45 rate. You want to transfert INTO a full realm ? Then you should wait in a waiting list that someone else of the opposite faction want to transfert. You want to transfert OUTSIDE of a full realm ? You free’ed one spot for another player that want to come here and your transfert is going to be wait-free (if you are going into a non-locked realm).
Add some queue time if the server is full, and enjoy your healthy game with all realms balanced. Yes, you are going to lose subscribers, but way less than doing nothing.
There is one thing I have known since WoW started, Blizzard do not care about faction balance.
People will just transfer to a realm where their faction isn’t dominant, which for PvP realms, doesn’t really exist for horde. Limiting logins is something I have always thought of as a no-no.
In wow history, Blizzard never did that, only pservers, they only did one-faction free transfers which noone took.
Faction lock means guilds cant count on all guildies to login at dugeon/raid/bg prime time. It is just not-good solution.
Also, they stated on Blizzcon they want to “friends play with friends”, so this non-caring behaviour is really odd.
People are really afraid to fight back. They much rather pay the 25€ fee and then complain.
That is the reason i started on pvp servers in vanilla and have stayed on them ever since. To kill farming bots.
