TRP profile structure?

Anyone got any ideas as to what include in a TRP profile. Any void elf monk rpers

Anything but history tbf. Nobody really wants to read a history on a TRP3 profile.
Include basics about the appearance of your character;
Name, age generalization, height, structure etc.

Generall appearence and maybe some hints towards the moral character is usually more than enough;
I’ve seen a lot of people add rp hooks too, so that might be an idea too, if you’re big on random RP

A brief description is quite standard, in terms of how the character looks. You will notice that the detail level varies greatly between profiles. I usually recommend mentioning some characteristics that would separate your character from others. Or if it’s something that greatly differs from the toon. In my case, very pale skin complexion is such a thing.

A good idea is to balance what you put in glances with what you put in the profile. If you have three glances which in detail describe appearance, and in addition have a profile with two big paragraphs on appearance, it may be a little too much for readers.

I also tend to include important character aspects, which help identify what kind of character it is. For example, things related to their profession or expertise. I mentioned some publications for my character. If there is some “extraordinary” item that your character has and if that item is very important to the character, then it may also be worth mentioning.

I also like when people go the extra mile in terms of formatting, but this is optional of course and subject to preference.

Overall I’d say brief and informative, so that people are not discouraged by the amount of text but still learn enough about the character.

I generally do

[Art links] (if there’s any)
[TL;DR description] in bullet points of the important stuff, like

  • scars on cheek
  • average height
  • curly hair

or whatever.
[More detailled description.]
[Places where/when you could have seen them in the past/What can be publically know] if open to people recognizing them somewhere/ other things and RP hooks that could be used (I know someone who was playing an author, so there was a small list and summary of books published)
[Else] other relevant stuff. If you need to keep track of an inventory, or stats, for example.

Glances are just that; a glance, for both the reader and their character.

A glance longer than a few sentences or a short paragraph fails at being a glance, and I’m not reading that. There’s a special place in hell for people who have glances so long they block up your entire screen.

I agree with the glances to be kept short - there is no need to have more than a two-three short sentences per glance to get your point across to the other person.

As per the “About” - I had way too many TRP wipes, so I just stuff my AA link with all the background, appearance and art. Those, who want to know it - will go over and read that, without my fear about another trp wipe that requires me to save it in some notepad.

I generally prefer shorter TRP pages - if you need anything verbose or extremely detailed, I’d just link the AA page in the bottom.

Generally in terms of length, I’d say the shortest should be At Glance section (as Mogi said, it’s what you get from a glance. A few sentences at most and the overall length close to like, an Imgur comment or a tweet maybe.), then the Description which I’d keep to a couple of paragraphs at most, or about half of the length of the default size for the TRP screen.

I tend to leave History completely blank, other than for maybe the most publicly known information that someone may know of the character. I would avoid putting any sort of birth dates and whatnot there - it’s for others to find out through roleplay.

And AA is where I would write without restriction in terms of length, complete with pictures decorating the page. Any pictures in the TRP I would either link as an Imgur album or link. The fewer clicks one needs to do, the better.

Using bullet points etc. can visually lengthen the description, but that’s fine as it brings out the most important parts of your profile.

Also! The front page (where name, age, eye colour etc. are listed) - avoid making it too noisy, especially with any attribute sliders. Having to scroll there is annoying and many tend to not bother.

I don’t know of any Void elf monk role players in Goldshire worth mentioning sorry wish I could help you OP

Probably won’t say anything new to the topic, but putting my own views on the subject.

I would start with the usual glances:
– Face details Anything you want a player to see in your character, bar the game model. Does she have a lazy eye? or she has something in her hair like a braid? Nothing too detailed.
– Body features. You mentioned she is a monk. Perhaps make sure her training is accrate with the body appearance and clothes. If she had some battles, did she get any scars? Is she walking differently? I’m a fan of changing attire daily, but there is always somethig that is present at all times. Like a pouch on her waist, or a flask.

–Details As you said, your character is a Ren’dorei. Perhaps add that aura of hers. Or a special bracelet, quite visible tattoo hard to miss?

That is personally what would put in glances.

As the About, you can put a little info about the character in general. Void elf monk? Now that is a interesting combo, as Void is a chaotic energy and being a monk you need to be in harmony with yourself. How did you achieve it? and if not, how are things going? A small, (and I mean small, as people don’t read novels in TRP about)simple story of how your character came to be.

Good luck and happy RP!

Keep glances short and precise. What is memorable about your character? A short description of what the other RP’er sees is more memorable than paragraphs that are so long they take up large chunks of your screen.
