Hello there after playing some classic shaman I decided to try healing on this toon for once and need some advice on what addons and Elvui setup to use as I tried practicing in lfr ( not the best place I know) and was really loving playing something new and fresh as I’ve only ever played dps throughout my Warcraft years. The setup i like is similar to where if your in a party the health bars are in the middle instead of on the left hand side where my raid frames are. I really hope that makes sense and apologise for rambling plus spelling/grammar errors. Many thanks in advance
Elvui - most common addon for UI. Can move what ever you want, where ever you want.
Then it’s up to you on plug ins/other add ons. Some people use a healing overlay. So left click the name plate will healing surge, right click will chain heal, middle button riptide etc
Elvui download - for a hughly customisable UI
https://www.tukui.org/download.php?ui=elvui
Healbot - for an easy to use/move name plates. And mouse over macros for wuicker heals

You only need 1 of them, not both, so up to you…
I use elvui and clique. Takes some time to set up elvui, but u can make it just the way u want to.
I use Grid2 for raid healing, combined with some homerolled (googled) mouseover macros, so I can point at anyone in the grid and hit the relevant hotkey without having to click to select them first.
On the whole, I prefer Grid2’s compactness and buff/debuff display. ElvUI tends to overload me with information I don’t need. Not important to me what disease, poison or magic debuff a player has, I just need to know they have something I can dispel. I will judge, based on the context of the fight, who I need to deal with - if anyone.
I do setup clique but… I never use it. It’s easier to program my brain to mouseover-keyboard for everything than to mouseclick for one specific action and mouseover-keyboard for all the rest.
My only advice to you as a fellow healer is DONT USE ANY HEALER ADDONS.
Honestly don’t understand why anyone would use things like healbot ect… learn to heal, I’ve never used an addon to help
Me heal.
I use ELVUI only.
I use the basic Ui these days… It’s acctually decent enought. Altho I must admit that some addons are really great, I don’t trust neither blizzard or the Addon creators to not “f-up” and I wake up one day with my whole UI shafted. So Macros + Basic Ui + Some WA’s I made myself.
Currently I use elvui and vuhdo, but I’ve always used mouseover macros instead of healing add on keybinds so I have used Grid and Healbot in the past without much trouble.
If I were to give any advice it would be to not overcomplicate your input methods.
An add on might get discontinued as soon as next patch. The simpler you keep things, the easier to move on and use something else.
Expanding the feedback you have about what is happening is merely understanding your responsibilities and respecting your teammates enough to ensure you do it faster.
Wrong role to pursue bragging rights.
I use ElvUi and Vuhdo
elvui, to move everything around, and vuhdo for click to cast raidframes (vuhdo is a little bit complicated with it’s options and it takes a while to get used to it)
my setup looks like this

Not the best healer out there me. But I’ve always used Healbot.
A key part of being a good healer is knowing the fights inside out. Knowing when damage is about to hit so you can prepare for it is the single most important thing IMO.
I personally only use Clique and Blizzard raid profile for groups too, works excellent.
I personally use elvui and clique for the click to heal function.
Example: my right click is rejuv left click regrowth, middle mouse button lifebloom, CTRL+left click wild growth, shift+middle dispel, shift+ right swiftmend.
Main advice would be to use either mouseover or the way i do it.
Important is to skip the step of targeting whoever you want to heal first, but always have the boss or other enemies targeted instead.
As for what is important to track on your frames for a shaman for example it would be riptide. Earth shield if talented for example.
Anything you need to see that is.
As a druid, i track all the possible HoTs i have.
Tracking debuffs. I prefer to see what i can dispel, in which case my raid frame changes color. Its also important to see what debuff ppl get even if you cant dispel it. Going in blind otherwise as to why someone is taking so much damage.
Im also tracking personals on my frames so i know not to overlap ex. hpallys sac with my ironbark or tanks personal cooldown.
Then it will take a lot of practise. Lfr is fine to start at. When i wanted to test something, i always queued up for the lfr wing that i felt was “hardest” to heal. I still remember testing all my new healer specs back in wod in highmaul. I heal since i started playing in end of MoP and i like to think im doing a pretty good job at it.
Just read up on a guide and watching some really good shamans on youtube healing mythic raids will give you a huge idea how to heal and how to react and prepare for different types of incoming damage.
Other than raid frames and tracking your hots and important debuffs i would also get some weak auras to track your cooldowns with it. Makes it a lot easier and more visible.
My raid frames are in the middle-lower part of my screen with my weak auras just above it tracking all important cooldowns so i dont have to look at my action bar at any point.
I know clique is popular for many. I just use Use elvui in its default format (frames on left, target on bottom).
I used to heal via name plates and i loved it. But after they made raid nameplates awful i just use standard raid frames on the left
Using no add ons on rsham just fine, so pick w/e looks good and makes you feel like playing.
I use basic frames set to raid frames… one saved for party one saved for raids. Then I use mouseover macros like this to heal and harm - just mouseover a frame or the person/mob in game. If you don’t mouseover anything it will just heal you.
I will share all my shammy ones I use:
#showtooltip
/cast [@mouseover,help][help] Riptide; [@mouseover,harm][harm] Flame Shock; Riptide
#showtooltip
/cast [@mouseover,help][help] healing wave; [@mouseover,harm][harm] lava burst; healing wave
#showtooltip
/cast [@mouseover,help][help] healing surge; [@mouseover,harm][harm] lightning bolt; healing surge
#showtooltip
/cast [@mouseover,help][help] chain heal; [@mouseover,harm][harm] chain lightning; chain heal
#showtooltip
/use [@mouseover,help,nodead][help,nodead][@player] Purify Spirit
My healing rain macro yells when I place it - you can change the message to anything you like:
#showtooltip
/run if GetSpellCooldown(“HEALING RAIN”) == 0 then SendChatMessage(“COME CLOSE FOR HEALING RAIN!”,“YELL”) end
/use Healing rain
I have ghostwolf on my side mousebutton
Using these macros saves space on your action bars for a tidy ui and makes questing easier.
Thank you all for all your tips and help I may have written my question out incorrectly as I’m currently using elvui and just wanted to move the party nameplates into the middle of my screen rather than have them at the side (which I’ve sorted out) and I cut my teeth on some low level mythic plus which all went smoothly but I will be using those mouse over macros posted by previous reply as I am currently clicking name plates then using the spell which can be frantic. All in all I’m really loving healing and am very grateful to all of you for your help.
I agree, Elvui only to keep track of buffs better.
Thats all that I need to heal (and DBM of course XD)
