Trying to fix boosting and other gear related problems in Arena. Here’s my idea!

First and foremost, the reason I post here is because of the postitive reception it got on the r/worldofpvp. Hopefully, these thoughts could be veiwed and discussed to improve a setting that in my opinion has a few faults. Especially regarding the PvP gear system and boosting tendencies we see today.
I’m open to adjustments to this idea, but these are my initial thoughts.

TLDR: If you obtained ilvl gear at higher rating you are only allowed to use it at that rating. You will be ilvl squished according to your teams average CR. Brackets are made to showcase ilvl caps.

Ever single bracket (explanation below) should have a gear cap that squish your ilvl when you enter the arena. It should be based on the average current rating between teammates.

Brackets: you can have max this ilvl depending on average current rating:

Unranked (0-1399) ilvl 200

Combatant (1400-1599) ilvl 207

Challenger (1600-1799) ilvl 213

Rival (1800-2099) ilvl 220

Duelist (2100+) ilvl 226

Elite (2400+) ilvl 233 *Weapon ONLY

Example when boosted: 0 rating player boosted by a 2400 rating player = 1200 rating. Highest rated player gets ilvl squish to 200 and lowest gets his current ilvl.

They will still face average MMR, or whatever the system suggests these days. The team with a booster will then be at a disadvantage as they might have higher mmr and face people with higher current rating. Therefore have their ilvl lower than what the opponent has.

In detail this will look something like this:
Boosting team = Blue team
Team with two players with similar CR = Red team

When they enter arena this happens:
Blue Team has a 0 rated player and a 2200 rated player = avg CR --> 1100 rating.
Combined MMR = 1650
0 rated player has 170 ilvl (nothing happens)
2200 rated player has 226 ilvl (gets scaled down to 200 ilvl)

Red team has two 1600 players = avg CR --> 1600 rating.
Combined MMR = 1650
Both players have 213 ilvl (nothing scales down)

This will eventually make it alot harder for boosters to boost, and easier to for the average player to face players at the same skill level.

Oh God yes please, I’m so tired of facing people 20 ilevels higher than me on dumpster CR’s.

Or, remove rating requirements for upgrading your gear. Let people rank up in arena for fun, titles and mounts.

No more scaling in pvp, ty. This is a mmorpg, your character’s power should never be altered.

Great idea, so if I’m at 1610 and my partner is 1589 my gear will be scaled down because of this stupid system.

Yes, for one match. Until both are equal. You are kinda boosting your friend since you are higher than him. This would really not effect your preformance in arena at all tbh. And the same case goes for you opponent. So both teams will have same ilvl. So yeah, don’t worry

But why is boosting an issue? Its not against the rules of the game and it makes the economy flow around more, plus even gives items (materials mostly) more value as less players are gathering because they can simply boost to earn gold.

Boosting with +21 rating xd You’re really obsessed with the word right?

Also if we lose, then it’s not just for one game. 1401 teams would have a lot advantage compared to 1399 ones, which is really stupid.

Not obsessed. Just don’t know what else to call it. Solution to your problem is simple enough. You just divide the 7 ilvl between each bracket to every rating. So, your avg rating is 1599 your ilvl should be 206.965! And not 7ilvl below. Agree?

The concept is good. All that needs to be done is to iron out any minor issues, like that one you discussed with Gerikee.

Perhaps your system could kick in when there is a sizable rating difference? Could kick in if there is a sizable ilvl difference between teammates and opponents too, if needed.

I think that’s not the solution. A simple fix would be that if you achieved high rating during that season, you cannot join very low CRs. That way you can attempt to boost at high CR if you’re that good but not at low, basically anything under 1800.

I think this ruins the possibility to play with friends at a lower rating. Don’t you?

It’s a fair compromise. Playing with friends that are super geared is also called boosting.

Yes, ofcourse it is, and that is why they need to scale down to the avg CR ilvl to play with them.

No, gear scaling is not the solution imo. It breaks the idea of character progression, which a lot of people enjoy. People want to feel stronger with gear and they should be able to, but at the appropriate ranking.

“This idea is bad cause it isn’t perfect so keep bad system with even more flaws”.

I need some macro to quickly ignore such people…

Thank you. You got it. You literally said the exact same thing my idea is all about. If you are at 2.1k CR, you should be able to use 226 ilvl.
If you’re at less than 1400 rating you should be able to use 200 ilvl gear, not more. Unless you rank up above 1400 rating.

You progress in ilvl gear as you rank up.

Holy, you’re stupid xD Ty for your useful insight I guess

I get what you’re saying, only that a glad in 200 ilvl will still beat a low rated folk with the same ilvl simply because he’s more skilled, has more experience.

It’s still boosting isn’t it?

Remember that you only scale down your gear if you choose to play at a lower rating. You never scale upwards, that is all about your gear progression where you farm conquest points/ honor and gear up as you progress you CR. If you hit 1600 mark, well, good job, you can now start improving your gear to ilvl 213. Nothing will stop you, even I you fall down a 100 rating. Like the system is today.

You critized idea which would solve annoying boosters problem just because in case 1 in 100000 you would be slightly weaker, take your “stupid” back.
