Bleh. I usually don’t think on it too much and go: ‘why…?’ like you. And then shrug and move on. But it sucks. I’ll never get that behaviour.
If I’d aim for a no death leveling experience, I’d stay far away from others. It gets too unpredictable otherwise. Shame that it is that way tho
Isn’t hardcore retail fairly trivial due to oneshotting most things?
Nah due to new scaling tech the days of 1 shots and getting stronger as you level are over.
Tbh this doesnt surprise, I am sorry you experienced these attitudes OP, personally I think you’re brave I lvl’d a Rogue recently and died so many times on 1 part where as on Classic my Rogue feels amazing and can kill things.
Basically I was levelling in Legion and the Outlaw weapon quest has mines on the beach which a high lvl Rogue can see, I could not at my lvl and I was getting blown into groups of mobs and dying because low lvl rogues tickle enemies.
Well ofcourse.
Levelling in retail is a high paced short grind thats in the way of the end game, the values in concerns to the levelling phase of a game dont exist among players.
Now ive never rly suffered this
and i dont have heirlooms in most cases, ive never seen this behaviour but im sure it exists the countless quantity of players continously in and out of groups im sure people alike this exists.
Out of curiosity were you doing leveling dungeons from the past few expansions? Namely BFA, Shadowlands and Legion?
I noticed little of what you describe in dungeons pre WoD, but I notice this to be the case in dungeons from previous expansions, especially BFA ones. I do not have a big enough sample size, but whenever I hear someone mention toxicity in leveling dungeons it always ended up being these dungeons.
I did this while waiting for official classic hc servers. Had no issue doing group content, didn’t even need to mention to the group that i am on a hc run and just minded my own business if i used lfg for dungeon.
Only died to my own mistakes like over aggroing or focusing wrong mobs.
Was a really fun experiment, especially leveling in Vashjir, not as fun as classic hc but still good way to try the game in new playstyles.
It’s your mistake to run lfd…
It’s not as easy to “Just carry on” when they are literally not healing you, and then vote kick you because of it.
This is an attitude issue, sadly humans (IRL Humans, not the ingame race) have a terrible tendency to often behave poorly unless punishable-effects are around for such behaviour.
There are very few who actually respect and care about others.

If you need a “Legit Streamer” pov to tell you that Retail Hardcore isn’t a pushover, check out Savix and his HC attempt.
He even said plenty of times that retail was harder than classic, purely because classic is all about just taking it slow — not about it being deadly out of nowhere.
Yes, I am sorry for using a tool provided in game.
It’s totally MY fault that PEOPLE are behaving like they are, and ruining the game for others.

Yeah, that’s great and that’s what I was hoping for too.
Shame I had the exact opposite experience, apparently.
I just joined LFGs, saying nothing besides a “Hello” as I enter, and still got treated like crap by 4 out of 4 dungeon run parties.
I did absolutely nothing besides have the “wrong” gear.
But people are terrible on the majority…
I mean even now with the new rumble promotion, there are horde just camping and /laugh at people as they 5+ v 1 people trying to get the foil / coin in orgrimmar.
Too many enjoy being terrible people.
I went for classic mode. Not sure what people were even doing there in LFG if they wanted to “GO FAST MIN/MAX”, but I guess being toxic is their goal…? Who knows.
I experienced the same. Wow is still not as toxic as lol. What I learned? Run keys only in guilds or communities.
But if you prefer to rant against a wall in forum, suit yourself
I mean sure. - - I was talking about when leveling tho.
Being treated terrible while LEVELING is adding a whole other aspect of issues, as newbies get even less inclined to play.
So, “suit myself” — not quite, it’s an issue that exists and ruins the game for people.
I think we need another level experience for groups. Dungeons might be outdated or they need to restrict the access to leveling gear in this area.
Maybe an “no rush” category in lfd as well. Where you get heavy penalties if you missbehave.
What I also think is that dungeons might be not correctly designed during leveling. An BFA island expedition approach might be more fitting. Where you just try to gather resources, fill bars, kill mobs and kill an small Endboss.
Breaks the straight routes and bring in some variety to achieve that goal. Can split up or run alone.

I wish we could just snap our fingers and… untoxcify people.
I’m quite sure they would still join those types of dungeons, and the punishment would be abused by them. - like they would report nice people who are just there to “Not rush”.
It already happens with the report function, where people get chat-banned cause Retbullian and his 10 friends decided to mass-report others “for lols” / because he didn’t like the person / harassment.

Yes might be an overarching design issue tbh
Except that classic is filled with stuff that’s deadly out of nowhere. (Excluding holes in the ground and dc related issues)
For retail, if it’s deadly it’s usually just due to a bug in the scaling.
