Turalyon? why is he on the throne?

OK… so i have been playing alliance all the way through BFA… with the new character customisation i rolled a new DK. I roll into Stormwind at level 10… and turalyon is on the throne… I mean W the Actual F?!! have i missed something… im not sure how… i’ve had no cutscene, no story to tell me why audian has has been superceded… have i been dumb and missed something? Or (as i suspect) its bug tthat has just ruined a huge plot twist?

Yup. This is not supposed to be a thing, yet. There is a datamined cinematic (SPOILERS!) that will probably be the first thing we see once the quests regarding the pre-event are actually live, and that will give you a bit of context. But that cinematic is not in the game yet, so Turalyon really shouldn’t be there. What is actual lore right now is that Anduin gave Turalyon the title of High Commander of the Alliance troops, or something like that, making him his second in command, essentially. That happened in the Shadows Rising novel a few weeks back.

Spoilers

To make it short: Anduin is kidnapped by the Jailor’s servants and brought into his torture realm. While he is away, Turalyon takes over leadership of the Alliance. With the consent of the nobility.

I cant believe the rest of the community is not raging about this? it seems a horrendous ‘spoiler’…

Blizzard has actually released the cinematic. It is on youtube now

That doesn’t make it less of a spoiler, though, just a sanctioned one.

completely not the point… even thou the video is on youtube… the context to the cinematic is not explained and i shouldnt have to rely on youtube for story context… otherwise why not just put a youtube link sitting on the throne?

Do not misunderstand , I am not saying it is properly implemented, I was just trying to clear that it is no longer simply datamined.

uhm, the fact that the cinematic is on youtube makes anduin’s abduction canon, and in shadow’s rising anduin made turalyon the alliance military leader in case of his absence, so him being on the throne is not a spoiler, its competely canon and accurate

Talking about the specific content of the cinematic while we are discussing how much of a spoiler it is is a dick move. You already read here that there are people that want to see it ingame when it’s there.

Since we are talking about timing… no. Blizzard has released their cinematics as soon as they are able to be datamined at least since WoD. But if they are part of a quest chain we would never assume that they already happened then. The BfA cinematics regarding Jaina for example happened at quite specific points in her quesline, but you could already watch them online.
And cinematics that use the ingame models, like this one, are usually part of the ingame content. This cinematic will likely be a part of the game experience, when we are told what happened before. I don’t think we are supposed to assume that the cinematic happened weeks before we actually thought about doing anyting about its events. I mean, there is a certain urgency involved, I would think…

And it is quite unusual to change the NPC before the quests are at the adequate point. Indeed, Turalyon doen’t even have a dialogue yet.

So yeah, this doesn’t seem thought-out at all, and has to feel like spoilers for anyone not looking for spoilers.

there is a quest where this cinematic plays, in icecrown i think

He wasn’t on the throne for long. I killed him already.

Right now? I don’t think so.

Something tells me that he’s gonna go all light paranoid on our b u t t s and he’s gonna s̶m̶o̶o̶c̶h̶b̶o̶o̶t̶i̶e̶s̶ ally himself with Yrel and bring the Lightbound to Azeroth and we’ll have to fight’em because noone likes to sleep with their lights on all night.

Since Turalyon sits on the Throne, i can´t finish the Campaign Quest “Payment in Kind” because it requires Anduin to be in the Throne Room…

For some reason Kings of Stormwind are suckers for Lordaeron Paladins. In Varian’s absence, Bolvar was the Regent of Stormwind. Turalyon who also hails from Lordaeron assumed the same position in Anduin’s absence.

And let’s be honest, the shining armor dude even has his own statue in the valley of Heroes. So it may be not very creative to put him in charge but not so suprising either.
