I personally have a slight aracnophobia, but it has gotten better over the years.
However, replacing them with crabs does not help me personally; It’s the leg-movement and count that freaks me out, and they share it or are very similar.
However; If we go down the road of adding phobia-toggles, we have looooots of things to cover… and how do we judge what is critical to add, and what isn’t?
Thalassiophobia, for example, is something I suffer from. Should there be a toggle for deep water areas to look less deep…?
The questions are plenty.
I’m not against adding it, it’s a great thing to have that option (for me it doesn’t help with crabs tho), but it is just also adding questions.
Yeah, it’s on one side a great addition.
On the other hand, as someone who has partially Arachnophobia (and overcome it), I don’t see it as necessary.
I dont have aracnophobia.
But, me curious what aracnophobia people see crab feel fine. How?

Arachnophobia I am pretty sure is built into some people. You can cure it with exposure therapy, but it’s very deeply ingrained.
It likely developed as a defense mechanism against the very venomous spiders in Africa. We all descend from these people, after all.
I don’t like spiders either particularly, but I can live with them, and they don’t bother me in WoW, though I definitely feel that spiders give a more creepy vibe than most other animals.
Pretty much all spiders in Europe are of course harmless, which is why we call it a phobia. However, I would say being scared of spiders in Australia is not particularly phobic… xD Entirely reasonable - some are very dangerous. And big!
I don’t think you can put a word on exactly what it is. It’s just… that shape. And the way they move and what they do.
And it doesn’t just affect you in the waking hours. One of my most traumatic nightmares is one I got after being assaulted (but defended myself well enough to not get seriously hurt). I got a nightmare the night after where the station, which is where it happened, was full of spiders. Red skies overhead, whole thing webbed meters high, swaying in a still wind. As I approached, tens of thousands of spiders crawled out over me, into me, etc. until I woke up.
And I’m not afraid of spiders! So I went online and googled if anyone else has had something similar and reached the conclusion that it was my subconscious trying to signal to my conscious mind to avoid that place at all costs by giving me maximally creepy memories to associate with it. I avoided the station for months because of the spiders! But it’s gone now.
The fear of spiders is really weird, and certainly far more than “someone had a traumatic experience with them” as some researchers think. And many animals just don’t care, cats eat them lol

Personally after a certain high I froze, not a fobia, but bad enough, a total system shutdown, and I’m glad in game I can experience flying and the majestic hights
In game you are in total controll
But with spiders, a very deep rooted fear as old as humanity itself on par with ophidiophobia is different
Everything, including the dogs you mentioned are controlled, even the dog mobs, they are rarely extremly scaled or you can’t recognise it is a dog
But the spiders… are like sharks. They are the pinacle of evolutionary design, they are perfect and in the past 400 million year not needed a change or upgrade
In WoW no matter what a spider will look a spider because you can’t improve perfection except making it larger
And they always hostile and huge like a truck, even the small ones are big as a cat
This is why it is not not stupid, with everything else, you are in controll or can’t recognize it is the object of your fear or phobia

It’s baffling that anyone would complain about a quality of life feature. It’s not being forced on anyone. Spiders are not removed from the game.

So - by your own words - it is completely OK for something to look like something else without changing the objects functionality?
Which just makes me think you’re complaining for the sake of complaining. About something that doesn’t even affect you.
I had Argus plate mog that made me look nothing like a DK but this trial of style mog is even better. You’re so close minded that you think there’s only one type of transmog.
